  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message UGMD069 - &1 is used in the hierarchy and cannot be deleted ?

The SAP error message UGMD069 indicates that a specific object (like a cost center, internal order, or another hierarchical element) cannot be deleted because it is currently being used in a hierarchy. This typically occurs in modules like Controlling (CO) or other areas where hierarchical structures are utilized.

    Cause:

The primary cause of this error is that the object you are trying to delete is still referenced in one or more hierarchical structures. This could mean that:

    • The object is part of a cost center hierarchy.
    • It is linked to a reporting structure.
    • It is being used in a planning scenario or other configurations.

    Solution:

To resolve this error, you need to identify and remove the references to the object in the hierarchy before attempting to delete it. Here are the steps you can take:

    1. Identify Usage:

      • Use transaction codes like KSH1 (for cost centers) or KSH2 to check the hierarchy where the object is used.
      • You can also use transaction KSH3 to display the hierarchy and see where the object is referenced.
    2. Remove from Hierarchy:

      • Navigate to the hierarchy where the object is used and remove it from that structure.
      • Ensure that you have the necessary authorizations to make changes to the hierarchy.
    3. Check Other Dependencies:

      • Ensure that the object is not being used in any other configurations, such as planning layouts, reports, or other master data.
    4. Delete the Object:

      • Once you have confirmed that the object is no longer referenced in any hierarchy or configuration, you can attempt to delete it again.
    5. Consult Documentation:

      • If you are unsure about the dependencies, consult the SAP documentation or your organization's SAP support team for guidance.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes for managing hierarchies and master data in your specific SAP module.
    • Authorization: Ensure you have the necessary permissions to make changes to hierarchies and delete objects.
    • Backup: Before making changes, consider backing up the current configuration or hierarchy to prevent data loss.

If you continue to face issues after following these steps, it may be beneficial to consult with your SAP support team or refer to SAP Notes for any specific patches or updates related to this error.
