  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message UGMD067 - &1 is used as a navigation attribute and cannot be deleted ?

The SAP error message UGMD067 indicates that a specific attribute (denoted as &1) is being used as a navigation attribute in a data model or InfoObject and cannot be deleted because it is still in use. This typically occurs in the context of SAP BW (Business Warehouse) or SAP HANA modeling.

    Cause:

    1. Navigation Attribute Usage: The attribute you are trying to delete is currently defined as a navigation attribute in one or more InfoObjects or data models. Navigation attributes are used to provide additional context or filtering options in queries and reports.
    2. Data Model Dependencies: The attribute may be linked to other objects, such as queries, reports, or data models, which rely on it for their functionality.

    Solution:

To resolve this error, you can follow these steps:

    1. Identify Dependencies:

      • Check where the attribute is being used as a navigation attribute. You can do this by examining the InfoObject or data model in the SAP BW or HANA modeling environment.
      • Look for any queries, reports, or other objects that reference the attribute.
    2. Remove Navigation Attribute Usage:

      • If the attribute is being used in queries or reports, you will need to remove it from those objects first. This may involve editing the query definitions or report layouts to eliminate references to the attribute.
      • If the attribute is part of a data model, you may need to adjust the model to remove the navigation attribute designation.
    3. Delete the Attribute:

      • Once you have removed all dependencies and usages of the attribute, you should be able to delete it without encountering the UGMD067 error.
    4. Recheck:

      • After making changes, recheck the data model or InfoObject to ensure that the attribute is no longer listed as a navigation attribute.

    Related Information:

    • SAP Documentation: Refer to the official SAP documentation for more details on managing InfoObjects and navigation attributes.
    • Transaction Codes: You may use transaction codes like RSA1 (Data Warehousing Workbench) or RSD1 (InfoObject Maintenance) to manage your InfoObjects and check their attributes.
    • Testing: After making changes, it’s a good practice to test any affected queries or reports to ensure they still function correctly without the deleted attribute.
