  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message UGMD066 - &1 is being used in ODS object &2 and cannot be deleted ?

The SAP error message UGMD066 indicates that a specific object (like a characteristic or key figure) is being used in an ODS (Operational Data Store) object and cannot be deleted because it is still in use. This is a common issue when trying to modify or delete objects that are linked to other data structures in SAP BW (Business Warehouse).

    Cause:

The error occurs when you attempt to delete a characteristic or key figure that is still referenced in an ODS object. This means that the object you are trying to delete is part of the data model and is actively being used in data processing or reporting.

    Solution:

To resolve this error, you can follow these steps:

    1. Identify Dependencies:

      • Check which ODS object is using the characteristic or key figure. You can do this by navigating to the ODS object in the SAP BW modeling tools and reviewing its structure.
    2. Remove References:

      • If the characteristic or key figure is indeed being used in the ODS object, you will need to remove it from the ODS object. This can typically be done in the ODS object definition by editing the structure and removing the relevant fields.
    3. Activate Changes:

      • After making changes to the ODS object, ensure that you activate the ODS object to save the changes.
    4. Delete the Object:

      • Once the characteristic or key figure is no longer referenced in any ODS object, you should be able to delete it without encountering the UGMD066 error.
    5. Check for Other Dependencies:

      • If the error persists, check if the characteristic or key figure is being used in other objects, such as InfoCubes, DSO, or queries. You may need to remove it from those objects as well.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: You can use transaction codes like RSA1 (Data Warehousing Workbench) to navigate to the ODS objects and check their definitions.
    • Documentation: Refer to SAP Help documentation for more details on managing ODS objects and understanding dependencies in the BW environment.
    • Transport Requests: If you are working in a development environment, ensure that any changes you make are included in the appropriate transport requests for moving to production.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the UGMD066 error and successfully delete the characteristic or key figure.
