  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message UGMD063 - &1 is used in the hierarchy and cannot be deleted ?

The SAP error message UGMD063 indicates that a specific object (usually a master data object like a cost center, profit center, or similar) is currently being used in a hierarchy and therefore cannot be deleted. This is a common issue when trying to manage hierarchical structures in SAP, as the system enforces data integrity by preventing the deletion of objects that are still in use.

    Cause:

    1. Object in Use: The object you are trying to delete is part of a hierarchy (e.g., a cost center is part of a cost center hierarchy).
    2. Dependencies: There may be dependencies or references to this object in other areas of the system, such as reports, allocations, or planning scenarios.
    3. Data Integrity: SAP prevents deletion to maintain data integrity and avoid orphaned records or inconsistencies in reporting.

    Solution:

    1. Check Hierarchy Usage:

      • Use transaction codes like KSH1 (for cost centers) or KSH2 to view the hierarchy structure and see where the object is being used.
      • Identify the hierarchy that includes the object you want to delete.
    2. Remove from Hierarchy:

      • If you have the necessary permissions, navigate to the hierarchy management transaction (e.g., KSH3 for cost centers) and remove the object from the hierarchy.
      • After removing it from the hierarchy, you should be able to delete the object.
    3. Check for Other Dependencies:

      • Ensure that the object is not being referenced in other transactions or reports. This may include checking for allocations, planning scenarios, or other master data dependencies.
    4. Consult Documentation:

      • Review SAP documentation or help files related to the specific object type you are dealing with for additional guidance on managing hierarchies.
    5. Seek Help from SAP Support:

      • If you are unable to resolve the issue, consider reaching out to your SAP support team or consulting SAP Notes for any known issues or additional troubleshooting steps.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes for managing hierarchies and master data (e.g., KSH1, KSH2, KSH3 for cost centers).
    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for UGMD063 for any specific patches or updates related to this error.
    • User Permissions: Ensure you have the necessary permissions to modify hierarchies and delete objects in your SAP environment.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify the cause of the error and take appropriate action to resolve it.
