  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message R5544 - City &1 has no different postal city, so moved to field 'City' ?

The SAP error message R5544 indicates that there is an issue with the city and postal code data in the system. Specifically, it means that the city you are trying to enter does not have a corresponding postal city defined in the system, so the system is defaulting the value to the 'City' field.

    Cause:

    1. Missing Postal City Data: The city you are trying to use does not have a defined postal city in the SAP system. This can happen if the postal code is not correctly linked to the city or if the postal city data has not been maintained in the system.
    2. Data Entry Error: There may be a typo or incorrect entry in the city or postal code fields.
    3. Configuration Issues: The configuration settings for address management in SAP may not be set up correctly, leading to this error.

    Solution:

    1. Check City and Postal Code: Verify that the city and postal code you are entering are correct. Ensure that they match the official postal data.
    2. Maintain Postal City Data:
      • Go to the transaction code OVK1 (or the relevant transaction for maintaining postal codes) to check if the postal city is defined for the given postal code.
      • If it is missing, you may need to add the postal city data for the specific postal code.
    3. Update Address Data: If you have access, you can update the address data in the relevant master data records (e.g., customer, vendor) to ensure that the city and postal code are correctly linked.
    4. Consult with SAP Basis or Functional Team: If you are unable to resolve the issue, it may be necessary to consult with your SAP Basis or functional team to check for any configuration issues or to update the necessary data in the system.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as OVK1 for maintaining postal codes, BP for business partner data, or XD01 for customer master data.
    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any known issues or patches related to address management and postal code handling.
    • Documentation: Review SAP documentation on address management to understand how postal codes and cities are managed within the system.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the R5544 error and ensure that your city and postal code data is correctly maintained in SAP.
