  • What causes this issue?

The current shift group already contains a shift abbreviation for the
data (daily work schedule, variant, attendance, absence, availability)
of the shift you are attempting to create.
    Example:
A shift abbreviation GL with the daily work schedule GLZ and variant A
already exists. It is not possible to create another shift abbreviation
GX with a daily work schedule GLZ and variant A.

    System Response

The specifications of shift abbreviations within a shift group must
differ from one another. The shift will not be saved if this is not the
    case.

    How to fix this error?

Check whether you really need the new shift abbreviation with these
specifications and, if necessary, choose a valid abbreviation.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message PE584 - Shift already exists for data entered ?

The SAP error message PE584 ("Shift already exists for data entered") typically occurs in the context of time management or personnel administration when there is an attempt to enter a shift or time record that overlaps with an existing entry for the same employee on the same day.

    Cause:

    1. Duplicate Shift Entry: The most common cause is that the system has detected that a shift for the same employee has already been recorded for the specified date and time.
    2. Incorrect Time Entry: The time or date entered may overlap with an existing shift, leading to a conflict.
    3. Configuration Issues: There may be configuration settings in the time management module that are not allowing overlapping shifts.

    Solution:

    1. Check Existing Entries: Review the time records for the employee on the specified date to see if there is already a shift recorded. You can do this through the relevant time management reports or infotypes (e.g., IT2001 for Absences, IT2002 for Attendances).
    2. Modify or Delete Existing Shift: If a duplicate entry is found, you may need to modify or delete the existing shift before entering the new one.
    3. Adjust Time Entry: Ensure that the time you are trying to enter does not overlap with any existing shifts. Adjust the start and end times accordingly.
    4. Consult Configuration: If you believe the error is due to configuration settings, consult with your SAP HR or time management consultant to review the settings related to shift management and overlapping entries.
    5. Use Different Date/Time: If the shift is necessary, consider entering it for a different date or time that does not conflict with existing records.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: You may use transaction codes like PA30 (Maintain HR Master Data) or PT60 (Time Evaluation) to check and manage time entries.
    • Infotypes: Familiarize yourself with relevant infotypes such as IT2001 (Absences), IT2002 (Attendances), and IT2003 (Substitutions) to manage employee time data effectively.
    • Documentation: Refer to SAP Help documentation for detailed information on time management and shift planning to understand the rules and configurations that govern shift entries.
