specifying a reference customer. However, an appropriate customer
already exists for this number.

System Response

After saving, only the reference customer data (such as distribution
channel) is transferred to the customer, that has not yet been
maintained there.

How to fix this error?

Alternatively you can maintain the standard customer directly using
function <LS>Change customer</> (VD02), or change the business partner
without specifiying a reference customer. .
