How To Fix DPR_SHARED211 - &1 &2: Start constraint conflicts with determined start

SAP Error Message - Details

  • Message type: E = Error

  • Message class: DPR_SHARED - Development Projects: Messages for Shared Objects

  • Message number: 211

  • Message text: &1 &2: Start constraint conflicts with determined start

  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

A constraint is set for the start of the project element. In forward
scheduling, the system calculates the start (earliest start) of the
    project element step by step:
Actual start of the project element (you can use the BAdI to ignore
    this)
If no actual start has been set, the system determines it from the
predecessor relationships of the project element.
If no start was found in the previous steps, the system takes the start
    of the higher-level project element.
The system then compares the determined start (earliest start) with the
constraint for the start. The warning appears if the start conflicts
with the constraint for the start.

    System Response

The system sets the start of the constraint as the calculated start.

    How to fix this error?

Check whether the constraint for the start is realistic.

    Procedure for System Administrators

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message DPR_SHARED211 - &1 &2: Start constraint conflicts with determined start ?

The SAP error message DPR_SHARED211 typically occurs in the context of project management within SAP, particularly when dealing with project planning and scheduling in the SAP Project System (PS) or SAP Portfolio and Project Management (PPM). This error indicates that there is a conflict between the start constraint of a task and the determined start date based on the project scheduling logic.

    Cause:

The error message DPR_SHARED211 is triggered when:

    1. Start Constraint Conflict: The task has a defined start constraint (e.g., "Must Start On," "Start No Earlier Than," or "Start No Later Than") that conflicts with the calculated start date based on dependencies, resource availability, or other scheduling rules.
    2. Dependency Issues: There may be predecessor or successor relationships that dictate a different start date than what is allowed by the constraints.
    3. Resource Allocation: If resources are not available at the determined start date, it can lead to a conflict with the constraints set for the task.
    4. Manual Adjustments: If a user manually adjusts the start date or constraints without considering the overall project schedule, it can lead to inconsistencies.

    Solution:

To resolve the DPR_SHARED211 error, you can take the following steps:

    1. Review Task Constraints:

      • Check the start constraints set for the task in question. Ensure that they are appropriate and do not conflict with the calculated start date.
    2. Adjust Dependencies:

      • Review the predecessor and successor relationships of the task. Make sure that they are correctly defined and that they align with the intended project schedule.
    3. Check Resource Availability:

      • Verify that the resources required for the task are available at the determined start date. If not, consider adjusting the resource allocation or the task's start date.
    4. Recalculate the Schedule:

      • Use the scheduling functions in SAP to recalculate the project schedule. This may help in resolving any conflicts automatically.
    5. Consult Project Management Guidelines:

      • Ensure that the project management guidelines and best practices are being followed in terms of task scheduling and constraints.
    6. Seek Help from SAP Support:

      • If the issue persists, consider reaching out to SAP support or consulting the SAP community for further assistance.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as CJ20N (Project Builder) or CProject (Project Management) to manage and analyze project tasks.
    • Documentation: Review SAP documentation related to project scheduling and constraints for a deeper understanding of how to manage tasks effectively.
    • Training: Consider training sessions or workshops on SAP Project System or Portfolio and Project Management to enhance your skills in managing project schedules.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify the root cause of the DPR_SHARED211 error and implement a suitable solution.
