This typically occurs in the context of SAP CRM (Customer Relationship Management) when trying to create or modify a record that requires an external allocation number, such as a financial transaction or a service order.
Cause:
- Number Range Configuration: The external allocation number you are trying to use is outside the defined number range for that particular object. Each object in SAP can have specific number ranges defined, and if the number you are trying to use does not fall within these ranges, you will encounter this error.

- If you are entering the number manually, ensure that you are using a valid number that fits within the defined range.
- If you are generating the number programmatically, check the logic to ensure it generates numbers within the valid range.
Consult Documentation:
- Review the SAP documentation or consult with your SAP administrator for specific guidelines on managing number ranges in your system.
Check for Customizations:
- If your organization has custom developments or enhancements, check if there are any custom logic or validations that might be affecting the number range.
