How To Fix WP3ROLES043 - Authorization role &1 is used in multiple portal roles

SAP Error Message - Details

  • Message type: E = Error

  • Message class: WP3ROLES - Portal Role Maintenance

  • Message number: 043

  • Message text: Authorization role &1 is used in multiple portal roles

  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

Authorization role &V1& was found to be used in more than one
combination of portal role and target system.
A possible reason could be an incorrect transport landscape, in which
the portal sends its data to multiple systems through one transport
    line.

    System Response

You cannot process the role with this transaction. Assigning the role
to users could have unwanted effects.

    How to fix this error?

Check the transport landscape for roles. The portal should send its
data to a single system in one transport line only.
If you need to send data to multiple systems, you must ensure that you
do not create authorization roles with identical names.
You can choose "Utilities --> Clean up data" to remove the assignment
of authorization role &V1& in the current system if you cannot resolve
the situation by transporting the role from the source system of the
    redundant entry.
You must restart the transaction to see the effects of this operation
on the status of the remaining elements.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message WP3ROLES043 - Authorization role &1 is used in multiple portal roles ?

    SAP Error Message:
WP3ROLES043 Authorization role &1 is used in multiple portal roles

    Cause:

This error occurs in SAP Enterprise Portal (EP) when an authorization role (PFCG role) is assigned to more than one portal role. In SAP EP, each authorization role should be uniquely assigned to a single portal role. If the same authorization role is linked to multiple portal roles, the system raises this error to prevent conflicts in role assignment and authorization management.

    Explanation:

    • Authorization Role: A PFCG role that contains authorization objects and permissions.
    • Portal Role: A role defined in the SAP Enterprise Portal that controls access to portal content and services.
    • The portal role references authorization roles to control backend authorizations.
    • Assigning the same authorization role to multiple portal roles can cause ambiguity in authorization checks and user role assignments.

    Solution:

    1. Identify the Authorization Role:

      • The error message shows the authorization role name in place of &1.
      • Use transaction PFCG to check the role details.
    2. Check Portal Role Assignments:

      • In the SAP Enterprise Portal Role Administration, check which portal roles are assigned the problematic authorization role.
      • You can use the Portal Role Administration tool or the transaction /n/iwfnd/roles or relevant portal role management tools.
    3. Correct the Role Assignments:

      • Ensure that the authorization role is assigned to only one portal role.
      • If multiple portal roles require similar authorizations, create separate authorization roles for each portal role instead of sharing one authorization role.
      • Alternatively, consolidate portal roles if appropriate.
    4. Transport and Synchronize:

      • After correcting the assignments, transport the changes if necessary.
      • Synchronize roles between backend and portal to ensure consistency.

    Additional Information:

    • This error is common during role design or role import/transport scenarios.
    • SAP recommends a one-to-one mapping between authorization roles and portal roles to avoid authorization conflicts.
    • Review SAP Notes related to portal role management for best practices.
    • If you are using SAP NetWeaver Portal, the role management is done via the Portal Role Administration tool or the SAP NetWeaver Administrator (NWA).

    Summary:
