    Error Message

VN374: No mail object can be created for partner & with function &

    • The placeholders & will be replaced by the partner number and partner function respectively.

    Cause

This error occurs when the system tries to create a mail object (usually for sending output such as purchase orders, invoices, or other documents) for a business partner in a purchasing document or related transaction, but it fails because:

    1. No valid email address is maintained for the partner in the partner master data.
    2. The partner function specified does not have an associated communication method or the communication method is not set to email.
    3. The output determination or message control is configured to send email, but the partner data is incomplete or incorrect.
    4. The partner is not properly maintained in the vendor master or customer master with the required communication details.
    5. The partner function used in the document does not correspond to a partner with email communication enabled.

    Solution

To resolve the error, follow these steps:

    1. Check Partner Master Data:

      • Go to the vendor master (transaction XK03 or MK03) or customer master (XD03 or FD03), depending on the partner type.
      • Verify that the partner has a valid email address maintained under the Communication tab.
      • Ensure the email address is correctly entered and active.
    2. Check Partner Functions in the Document:

      • In the purchasing document (e.g., Purchase Order), check the partner functions assigned.
      • Make sure the partner function for which the mail is being created has a partner with a valid email address.
    3. Check Output Determination / Message Control:

      • Verify the output type configuration (transaction NACE for purchasing).
      • Ensure that the output medium is set to External Send (e.g., email).
      • Confirm that the partner function used for output has the communication method set to email.
    4. Maintain Communication Method:

      • In the partner master, communication methods must be maintained properly.
      • For vendors, check the Correspondence tab and ensure the email is maintained.
      • For customers, check the Address and Communication data.
    5. Test Email Sending:

      • Use transaction SOST to check if emails are being sent.
      • If emails are stuck or not generated, check the SMTP configuration and output device settings.
    6. Partner Determination Procedure:

      • Check if the partner determination procedure is correctly assigned and active in the document type.
      • Make sure the partner function is correctly assigned and the partner exists.

    Additional Information

    • This error is common in scenarios where output messages are configured to be sent via email but the partner master data is incomplete.
    • The error message is triggered during output processing when the system tries to create a mail object but cannot find the necessary email address.
    • Sometimes, the partner function in the document might be assigned incorrectly or missing.
    • If the partner is a vendor, ensure that the vendor master record has the email address in the Purchasing or Correspondence section.
    • For customer partners, check the customer master communication data.
