  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message VL382 - Proportion/product unit of measure & invalid for item & ?

The SAP error message VL382 indicates that there is an issue with the unit of measure (UoM) for a specific item in a delivery or shipping document. This error typically arises when the system encounters a discrepancy between the expected unit of measure and the actual unit of measure defined for the item in question.

    Cause:

    1. Incorrect Unit of Measure Configuration: The unit of measure for the item may not be correctly defined in the material master or may not match the expected unit of measure in the delivery document.
    2. Proportion Issues: If the item is set up with a proportion (e.g., a base unit of measure and a sales unit of measure), there may be a mismatch in how these are defined or used in the delivery.
    3. Item Master Data: The item master data may not be properly maintained, leading to inconsistencies in how units of measure are handled.
    4. Delivery Document Settings: The delivery document may have been created with incorrect settings or data that do not align with the item’s master data.

    Solution:

    1. Check Material Master Data:

      • Go to the material master (transaction code MM03) and verify the unit of measure settings for the item. Ensure that the base unit of measure and any alternative units of measure are correctly defined.
      • Check the "Sales Org. Data" and "Plant Data" views to ensure that the UoM is consistent across all relevant views.
    2. Review Delivery Document:

      • Check the delivery document (transaction code VL03N) to see if the item is being processed with the correct unit of measure. Ensure that the UoM used in the delivery matches the UoM defined in the material master.
    3. Adjust Proportions:

      • If the item has a proportion defined, ensure that the proportion is correctly set up in the material master. This includes checking the conversion factors between different units of measure.
    4. Recreate Delivery:

      • If the delivery document is incorrect, consider deleting and recreating the delivery with the correct item and unit of measure.
    5. Consult Documentation:

      • Review SAP documentation or consult with your SAP support team for specific configurations related to units of measure and delivery processing.
