  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message UPC_FW105 - Entry of user-specific values for variable &1 is not allowed ?

The SAP error message UPC_FW105, which states "Entry of user-specific values for variable &1 is not allowed," typically occurs in the context of SAP BW (Business Warehouse) or SAP HANA when a user attempts to enter a value for a variable that is not permitted to be user-specific. This can happen in various scenarios, such as when executing queries or reports that utilize variables for filtering data.

    Cause:

    1. Variable Settings: The variable in question is configured in a way that does not allow user-specific entries. This is often set in the variable properties where the "User-specific" option is disabled.
    2. Query Design: The query or report may be designed to restrict user input for certain variables to ensure consistency in data retrieval.
    3. Authorization Issues: Sometimes, the user may not have the necessary authorizations to modify or enter values for specific variables.

    Solution:

    1. Check Variable Properties:

      • Go to the variable settings in the query designer or the relevant transaction.
      • Ensure that the variable is set to allow user-specific entries if that is the intended behavior. This can be done by checking the "User-specific" option in the variable properties.
    2. Modify Query Design:

      • If you have access, consider modifying the query to allow user-specific values for the variable if it makes sense for your reporting needs.
    3. Use Default Values:

      • If user-specific entries are not allowed, you may need to use the default values provided for the variable or select from the available options.
    4. Consult Documentation:

      • Review the documentation for the specific query or report to understand the intended use of the variable and any restrictions that may apply.
    5. Contact Administrator:

      • If you believe you should have access to enter user-specific values, contact your SAP BW or HANA administrator to discuss the issue and request any necessary changes to your user permissions or the variable settings.

    Related Information:

    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any known issues or updates related to this error message.
