Message text: Field overflow with iteration
Within the iteration for the price calculation resp. for the plan
reconciliation, a field overflow occurred for the allocation
relationship between &V1& and &V2&.
To prevent an abnormal termination, the value is set to 0. This of
course makes all results of the iteration debatable; a possible update
is therefore not carried out.
Check the causes for the field overflow. The problem might be caused by
an error in planning. It can also happen that the iteration provides a
divergent result.

KP288
- Field overflow with iteration ?The SAP error message KP288 ("Field overflow with iteration") typically occurs in the context of the Controlling (CO) module, particularly when dealing with cost planning or cost center accounting. This error indicates that a value being processed exceeds the allowable limit for a specific field, often due to the size of the data being handled or the configuration of the system.
Causes:
- Data Size Exceeding Limits: The most common cause is that the value being processed (e.g., costs, quantities) exceeds the maximum limit defined for that field in the database or application logic.
- Incorrect Configuration: Configuration settings in the controlling area or cost center may not be set up correctly, leading to unexpected values during calculations.
- Iteration Issues: If the error occurs during an iterative process (like planning iterations), it may be due to cumulative values exceeding the field limits.
- Data Type Mismatch: If the data type of a field is not appropriate for the values being processed, it can lead to overflow errors.
Solutions:
- Check Field Limits: Review the field definitions in the relevant tables to understand the maximum allowable values. Adjust your data inputs accordingly.
- Review Configuration: Ensure that the configuration settings for cost centers, cost elements, and planning versions are correctly set up. This includes checking the settings in transaction codes like OKKP (Controlling Area) and KP06 (Cost Center Planning).
- Data Validation: Validate the data being input into the system to ensure it does not exceed the defined limits. This may involve checking the source of the data and ensuring it is accurate.
- Adjust Iteration Logic: If the error occurs during an iterative process, consider breaking down the iterations into smaller chunks or adjusting the logic to prevent cumulative values from exceeding limits.
- Consult SAP Notes: Check the SAP Support Portal for any relevant notes or patches that may address this specific error. Sometimes, SAP releases updates that fix known issues.
Related Information:
If the problem persists after trying the above solutions, it may be beneficial to consult with your SAP Basis or technical team for further investigation, as they can provide deeper insights into system configurations and potential underlying issues.
