Message type: E = Error
Message class: GR - Report Writer
Message number: 012
Message text: Library & is already being edited by user &
The library is blocked because it is already being processed.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
Check whether it is you yourself or another user who is processing the
library. The system can only perform the function you selected once
this processing is finished.
You can use the transaction <DS:TRAN.SM12>Edit Lock Entry</> to display
and edit lock entries. However, you should only delete lock entries
once you are sure that this will not lead to simultaneous access to the
object.

GR012
- Library & is already being edited by user & ?The SAP error message GR012 typically indicates that a library or object is currently being edited by another user, which prevents you from making changes to it. This is a common issue in collaborative environments where multiple users may be trying to access the same resources simultaneously.
Cause:
- Concurrent Access: Another user has locked the library or object for editing, which prevents other users from making changes until the lock is released.
- Session Timeout: Sometimes, a user may have left a session open, causing the lock to persist even if they are no longer actively editing.
- System Glitch: Occasionally, the system may not properly release locks due to a glitch or error.
Solution:
- Wait for Release: If another user is editing the library, the simplest solution is to wait until they finish and release the lock.
- Check Lock Status: You can check who is currently editing the object by using transaction code SM12 (for lock entries). This will show you the users who have locks on various objects.
- Contact the User: If you identify the user who has the lock, you can reach out to them to see if they can release it.
- Force Release (if necessary): If the user is unavailable and you have the necessary permissions, you can delete the lock entry in SM12. However, this should be done with caution, as it may lead to data loss or corruption if the user is actively working on the object.
- Check for Background Jobs: Sometimes, background jobs may hold locks. You can check for any running jobs that might be causing the lock using transaction SM37.
