  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message GL136 - Ledger & is not just a rollup ledger, you can also post to it ?

The SAP error message GL136 indicates that the ledger you are trying to post to is not a rollup ledger, and therefore, it is not configured to allow postings. This error typically arises in the context of financial accounting when attempting to post transactions to a ledger that is not set up for direct postings.

    Cause:

    1. Ledger Configuration: The ledger in question is configured as a rollup ledger, which means it is intended to aggregate data from other ledgers rather than to receive direct postings.
    2. Posting Settings: The settings for the ledger may not allow for direct postings, which is common for rollup ledgers that are used for reporting purposes.
    3. Incorrect Ledger Selection: The user may have selected the wrong ledger for posting, leading to this error.

    Solution:

    1. Check Ledger Type: Verify the configuration of the ledger in the SAP system. Ensure that it is not set as a rollup ledger if you intend to post directly to it.

      • Navigate to the configuration settings for ledgers in the SAP system (Transaction Code: OB22).
      • Check the properties of the ledger and ensure it is set up to allow postings.
    2. Use the Correct Ledger: If you need to post transactions, ensure you are using a ledger that is configured for direct postings. This may involve selecting a different ledger that is not a rollup ledger.

    3. Consult with SAP Administrator: If you are unsure about the configuration or need to change the settings, consult with your SAP administrator or financial team to ensure that the ledger settings align with your posting requirements.

    4. Review Documentation: Check SAP documentation or help resources for more detailed information on ledger configurations and posting rules.

    Related Information:

    • Rollup Ledger: A rollup ledger is typically used for consolidating data from multiple ledgers for reporting purposes. It does not allow for direct postings to maintain the integrity of the aggregated data.
    • SAP Financial Accounting (FI): Understanding the structure of ledgers in SAP FI is crucial for effective financial reporting and transaction processing.
    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as OB22 (for ledger configuration) and FB50 (for general ledger postings) to navigate the system effectively.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the GL136 error and ensure that your postings are directed to the appropriate ledger.
