  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message GJ212 - Number Range for Class & for Company Code & Has Reached the Last 10 % ?

The SAP error message GJ212 indicates that the number range for a specific class and company code has reached the last 10% of its available numbers. This is a warning that the number range is nearing its limit, and if not addressed, it could lead to issues with creating new records that require a unique number from that range.

    Cause:

The error occurs when the system detects that the number range for a specific class (e.g., asset class, document type) and company code is running low on available numbers. This can happen due to:

    1. High Volume of Transactions: A large number of transactions have been created, consuming most of the available numbers in the range.
    2. Inadequate Number Range Configuration: The number range may have been set too low initially, not anticipating the volume of transactions.
    3. Number Range Overlap: If multiple classes or company codes are using the same number range, it can lead to quicker depletion.

    Solution:

To resolve this issue, you can take the following steps:

    1. Extend the Number Range:

      • Go to the transaction code SNRO (Number Range Objects).
      • Find the relevant number range object associated with the class and company code.
      • Adjust the number range to increase the upper limit, allowing for more numbers to be generated.
    2. Create a New Number Range:

      • If extending the existing range is not feasible, consider creating a new number range.
      • Assign the new number range to the relevant class and company code.
    3. Monitor Usage:

      • Regularly monitor the usage of number ranges to prevent reaching critical levels in the future.
      • Set up alerts or reports to notify relevant personnel when the number range is approaching its limits.
    4. Review Configuration:

      • Review the configuration of number ranges to ensure they are set appropriately for the expected transaction volume.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes:

      • SNRO: Manage number range objects.
      • OAVC: Configure number ranges for asset accounting.
      • OBA7: Manage number ranges for document types.
    • Documentation: Refer to SAP Help documentation for detailed instructions on managing number ranges and best practices.

    • Testing: After making changes to the number range, perform testing to ensure that new transactions can be created without issues.
