  • What causes this issue?

Another user is maintaining the venture (JOA) you want to change.

    System Response

Only one user at a time can maintain a venture (JOA).
If a user maintains a JOA all ventures belonging to the JOA are locked
because changes of equity groups on the JOA level can affect all
    ventures belonging to the JOA.
Also, if a single venture is maintained, the JOA of the venture is
    locked for the same reason.

    How to fix this error?

Wait until the other user releases the venture (JOA) or contact the
    person.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message GJ211 - Venture & is Currently locked by User & ?

The SAP error message "GJ211 Venture & is Currently locked by User &" typically indicates that a specific venture (or project) is currently locked by another user, preventing you from making changes or accessing it. This locking mechanism is a part of SAP's concurrency control to ensure data integrity when multiple users are working on the same data.

    Cause:

    1. User Locking: Another user is currently editing or has locked the venture for some reason (e.g., they are in the middle of a transaction).
    2. Session Timeout: A user may have left a session open, which can lead to a lock if they did not properly log out.
    3. System Error: Occasionally, system errors or crashes can leave a lock in place even if the user is no longer active.

    Solution:

    1. Wait and Retry: If the lock is temporary, waiting for the other user to finish their work may resolve the issue.
    2. Identify the Locking User: Use transaction code SM12 (User Locks) to identify which user has locked the venture. You can search for the venture number to see the user who has it locked.
    3. Contact the User: If possible, contact the user who has the lock and ask them to release it.
    4. Release the Lock: If the user is unavailable and you have the necessary authorizations, you can manually release the lock in transaction SM12. Be cautious with this approach, as it may lead to data inconsistencies if the other user is actively working on the venture.
    5. Check for Background Jobs: Sometimes, background jobs may also hold locks. Check transaction SM37 to see if any jobs are running that might be causing the lock.
    6. System Administrator: If you are unable to resolve the issue, contact your SAP system administrator for assistance.

    Related Information:

    • Lock Management: Understanding how SAP handles locks can help in troubleshooting. Locks can be exclusive (preventing all other access) or shared (allowing read access).
    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes like SM12 (to view and manage locks), SM37 (to check background jobs), and SM21 (to view system logs).
    • User Training: Ensure that users are trained on proper session management to minimize the occurrence of unnecessary locks.

By following these steps, you should be able to address the GJ211 error and regain access to the locked venture.
