Message class: COOS - Order Split
Message number: 039
Message text: Split would lead to separation of phantom assemblies and phant.components
When an order is split, the split operation, all operations following
and all dependent components are transferred from the parent to the
child order. All other operations and components are not transferred to
the child order. According to the logic above, the operation
assignments for a phantom assembly and its components would lead to the
phantom assembly being separated from one of its components. The split
can therefore not be executed in this way.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
You can solve the problem by changing the operation assignments
accordingly and executing the split again.

COOS039
- Split would lead to separation of phantom assemblies and phant.components ?The SAP error message COOS039 indicates that there is an issue with the splitting of a production order or a process order that involves phantom assemblies and their components. Phantom assemblies are special types of assemblies in SAP that are not physically stocked but are used in the bill of materials (BOM) for planning purposes. The error arises when the system detects that splitting the order would result in a separation of these phantom assemblies from their components, which is not allowed.
Cause:
- Phantom Assembly Configuration: The phantom assembly is defined in the BOM, and it is expected to be treated as a single unit. If the system attempts to split the order, it may lead to a situation where the phantom assembly is separated from its components.
- Order Splitting Criteria: The criteria set for splitting the order may not align with the structure of the BOM, particularly if the phantom assembly is involved.
- Order Status: The status of the production order may not allow for splitting, especially if it is already in a certain processing state.
Solution:
- Review BOM Structure: Check the BOM for the phantom assembly and ensure that it is correctly defined. Make sure that the components are properly linked to the phantom assembly.
- Adjust Splitting Criteria: Modify the criteria for splitting the order. You may need to adjust the settings in the order type or the production scheduling profile to prevent splitting when phantom assemblies are involved.
- Manual Intervention: If necessary, manually adjust the production order to ensure that the phantom assembly and its components remain together. This may involve creating a new order or adjusting the existing one.
- Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidance on handling phantom assemblies and order splitting.
