  • What causes this issue?

When order split is carried out, a part of the requirements quantity of
the material component in the child order is diverted. The diverted
quantity is determined by the split quantity. After executing the
split, the requirements quantity that remains in the parent order is
smaller than the quantity already withdrawn. The surplus amount covers
part of the requirements quantity of the component in the child order.
This results in a requirement for this component that is too high.

The SAP error message COOS040 indicates that there is an issue with the splitting of a production order or a planned order in the Controlling (CO) module, specifically related to the component requirements. The message states that the split leads to a requirement that exceeds the available quantity for a specific component.

    Cause:

    1. Excessive Requirement: The split of the order results in a requirement for a component that is higher than what is available in stock or what can be produced.
    2. Incorrect Configuration: The configuration of the production order or the bill of materials (BOM) may not be set up correctly, leading to incorrect calculations of component requirements.
    3. Capacity Constraints: There may be capacity constraints in the production process that prevent the required quantity from being produced.
    4. Stock Shortage: The component may not be available in sufficient quantities in inventory, leading to a situation where the requirement cannot be fulfilled.

    Solution:

    1. Check Component Availability: Verify the stock levels of the component in question. If the stock is insufficient, consider procuring more materials or adjusting the production schedule.
    2. Adjust Order Splitting: Review the splitting criteria for the production order. You may need to adjust the order splitting settings to ensure that the requirements do not exceed available quantities.
    3. Review BOM and Routing: Check the bill of materials and routing for the production order to ensure that they are correctly defined and that the quantities are accurate.
    4. Capacity Planning: Ensure that the production capacity is sufficient to meet the requirements. If necessary, adjust the production plan or schedule additional resources.
    5. Consult with Production Planning: Collaborate with the production planning team to understand the implications of the split and to find a feasible solution.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: You may use transaction codes like CO02 (Change Production Order) or CO03 (Display Production Order) to review and modify production orders.
    • Material Master: Check the material master data for the component to ensure that all relevant information (like stock levels, lead times, etc.) is accurate.
    • Production Order Management: Familiarize yourself with the production order management processes in SAP, including how to handle splits and component requirements.
