  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message CMS_MOV006 - Cannot create objects;number range interval &1 not defined for object &2 ?

The SAP error message CMS_MOV006 indicates that the system is unable to create objects because the number range interval specified for a particular object type is not defined. This typically occurs in the context of creating or managing objects in the SAP system, such as when working with materials, documents, or other entities that require unique identifiers.

    Cause:

The error is caused by one of the following reasons:

    1. Number Range Not Defined: The number range interval for the specified object type (indicated by &2 in the error message) has not been defined in the system.
    2. Number Range Not Assigned: The number range interval exists but is not assigned to the relevant object type.
    3. Number Range Deactivated: The number range might be deactivated or not available for use.

    Solution:

To resolve the error, you can follow these steps:

    1. Check Number Range Configuration:

      • Go to the transaction code SNRO (Number Range Objects).
      • Enter the object name (the object type indicated by &2 in the error message) and click on "Display".
      • Check if the number range intervals are defined for this object.
    2. Define or Adjust Number Range:

      • If the number range is not defined, you will need to create a new number range interval.
      • If it exists but is not assigned, you may need to assign it to the relevant object type.
      • If the number range is deactivated, you will need to activate it.
    3. Assign Number Range to Object:

      • If necessary, go to the transaction code OAVN (for example, for document types) or the relevant configuration transaction for the specific object type.
      • Ensure that the number range is correctly assigned to the object type.
    4. Testing:

      • After making the necessary changes, try to create the object again to see if the error persists.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes:
      • SNRO: To manage number range objects.
      • OAVN: To manage document types and their number ranges.
    • Documentation: Refer to SAP Help documentation for detailed information on number range management and configuration.
    • Authorization: Ensure that you have the necessary authorizations to make changes to number ranges and object configurations.
