Message text: First execute planning run (multi-level) for material &1
The planned order cannot be converted as the related order network is
not complete. This affects component &V2&. A planned order was not
created for the secondary requirement of the components manufactured
directly.
This can be done by multi-level material requirements planning.
Start multi-level material requirements planning for the planned order
material.
If conversion is still not possible after you have carried out
multi-level planning, investigate the following:
Was the order network planned successfully, or did the program
terminate during planning? Check the termination MRP lists.
Check whether the material master for the directly manufactured
assemblies is maintained correctly. The MRP type should be set so that
that material is planned (that means it should not be set to 'ND').
Dependent requirements should be relevant for planning.
Is there is a fixed planned order for an assembly in the order network
for which the order quantity differs from the quantity of the
initiating secondary requirement? If so, deselect the flag for fixing
the planned order, or adjust the quantity and then carry out planning
again.

The SAP error message C2309, which states "First execute planning run (multi-level) for material &1," typically occurs in the context of production planning and material requirements planning (MRP) in SAP. This error indicates that a multi-level planning run has not been executed for the specified material, which is necessary for the system to generate the required planning data.
Cause:
- Missing Planning Run: The primary cause of this error is that the multi-level planning run has not been executed for the material in question. This means that the system does not have the necessary data to perform further planning activities.
- Material Master Settings: The material may not be set up correctly in the material master, which can affect its planning status.
- MRP Type: The MRP type assigned to the material may not be appropriate for multi-level planning.
- Planning Parameters: Incorrect or missing planning parameters in the MRP settings can also lead to this error.
Solution:
Execute Multi-Level Planning Run:
- Go to the MRP run transaction (usually transaction code MD01 for total planning or MD02 for single-item planning).
- Enter the material number and execute the planning run. This will generate the necessary planning data for the material.
Check Material Master Data:
- Verify the material master data for the material in question. Ensure that the MRP type is set correctly and that all relevant fields are filled out.
- Check the MRP views in the material master (transaction code MM03) to ensure that the planning parameters are correctly configured.
Review MRP Settings:
- Check the MRP settings in the configuration (transaction code SPRO) to ensure that the planning parameters are set correctly for the materials you are working with.
Check for Dependencies:
- If the material is dependent on other materials (e.g., components in a BOM), ensure that those materials have also been planned.
Run MRP in Background: If you have a large number of materials to plan, consider running the MRP in the background to avoid performance issues.
Related Information:
Transaction Codes:
MRP Types: Familiarize yourself with different MRP types (e.g., PD for MRP, VB for consumption-based planning) and their implications on planning behavior.
Documentation: Refer to SAP Help documentation for detailed information on MRP processes and configuration.
By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the C2309 error and successfully execute the planning run for the specified material.

SAP messages fall into 3 different categories: Error messages
(message type = E), Warnings (W) or Informational (I) messages.
An error message will prevent you from continuing your work - it is a hard stop and you need to fix the error before you can proceed. A warning message will stop your work, however, you can then bypass the warning by pressing the Enter key on your keyboard. That said, it is still good practice to investigate the cause of the warning message and address it. An information message will not stop your work and is truly just for informational purposes.
