  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message BV266 - User type &1 is unknown in child system &2 ?

The SAP error message BV266 indicates that there is an issue with user type recognition in a child system. Specifically, the message states: "User type &1 is unknown in child system &2." This typically occurs in scenarios involving system landscapes where there are multiple SAP systems (e.g., a central system and one or more child systems) and user types are not properly defined or synchronized.

    Cause:

    1. User Type Not Defined: The user type specified in the error message is not defined in the child system. This can happen if the user type was created in the central system but not replicated to the child system.
    2. Configuration Issues: There may be configuration issues in the child system that prevent it from recognizing the user type.
    3. Transport Issues: If user types were transported from one system to another, there may have been an error during the transport process.
    4. Authorization Issues: The user may not have the necessary authorizations to access the child system, leading to the system not recognizing the user type.

    Solution:

    1. Check User Type Definition: Verify that the user type specified in the error message is defined in the child system. You can do this by checking the user type configuration in transaction SU01 or SU02.
    2. Replicate User Types: If the user type is missing, you may need to replicate the user type from the central system to the child system. This can often be done through the user management tools or by using transport requests.
    3. Review Configuration: Ensure that the child system is properly configured to recognize user types. This may involve checking system settings or parameters related to user management.
    4. Check Transport Logs: If user types were recently transported, check the transport logs for any errors or warnings that may indicate issues during the transport process.
    5. Authorization Check: Ensure that the user has the necessary authorizations to access the child system. This may involve checking roles and profiles assigned to the user.
