  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message AJ553 - Document &1: Print document &2 is more recent than print document &3 ?

The SAP error message AJ553 indicates that there is a conflict with print documents in the system. Specifically, it means that the print document you are trying to process (document &2) is more recent than another print document (document &3) that is already associated with the same original document (&1). This situation typically arises in scenarios where multiple print requests are generated for the same document, and the system is trying to ensure that the most recent version is used.

    Cause:

    1. Multiple Print Requests: The error often occurs when multiple print requests are generated for the same document, and the system detects that one of the requests is more recent than another.
    2. Document Versioning: The system maintains versions of print documents, and if a newer version is created after an older one, it can lead to this error.
    3. Concurrency Issues: If two users or processes attempt to print the same document simultaneously, it can create conflicts.

    Solution:

    1. Check Print Requests: Review the print requests for the document in question. Identify if there are multiple requests and determine which one is the most recent.
    2. Cancel Older Print Requests: If you find that there are older print requests that are no longer needed, you can cancel them to resolve the conflict.
    3. Reprint the Document: After resolving any conflicts, you can attempt to reprint the document. Ensure that you are printing the most recent version.
    4. Review Document Status: Check the status of the original document to ensure it is in a state that allows printing.
    5. Consult SAP Notes: If the issue persists, check for any relevant SAP Notes or updates that may address this specific error.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: You may use transaction codes like SP01 to view spool requests and check the status of print jobs.
    • Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation for more details on print management and handling print requests.
    • User Permissions: Ensure that you have the necessary permissions to manage print requests and documents in the system.

If the problem continues after following these steps, it may be beneficial to consult with your SAP Basis or technical support team for further investigation.
