Message text: Numerator and denominator reduced by factor of 10
The HR master data contains a value with four whole number places for
the numerator and/or denominator field. On this screen, however, only
three-character amounts can be processed due to the space available.
The values have been reduced by a factor of 10.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
Check that the capacity utilization level (quotient calculated from the
numerator and denominator) still contains the correct value (also in
terms of rounding).

- Numerator and denominator reduced by factor of 10 ?The SAP error message 5Z347, which states "Numerator and denominator reduced by factor of 10," typically occurs in the context of SAP's handling of measurement units, particularly in the area of logistics or production where quantities are involved. This error indicates that there is a discrepancy in the units of measure being used, specifically that the system has automatically adjusted the numerator and denominator of a measurement by a factor of 10.
Cause:
- Unit of Measure Configuration: The error often arises when there is a mismatch in the unit of measure configuration in the system. For example, if a quantity is expected in liters but is provided in milliliters, the system may attempt to adjust the values.
- Decimal Places: The error can also occur if the system is expecting a certain number of decimal places for a quantity but receives a value that does not conform to this expectation.
- Data Entry Errors: Incorrect data entry during the transaction can lead to this error, especially if the user inputs a value that is not compatible with the expected unit of measure.
Solution:
- Check Unit of Measure Settings: Review the unit of measure settings in the material master or the relevant configuration settings in SAP. Ensure that the units of measure are correctly defined and that the conversion factors are set up properly.
- Verify Data Entry: Double-check the data being entered in the transaction. Ensure that the quantities are being entered in the correct units and that they conform to the expected format.
- Adjust Decimal Places: If the issue is related to decimal places, ensure that the system settings allow for the appropriate number of decimal places for the quantities being processed.
- Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidance on handling unit of measure issues in your version of SAP.
