  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message 5N059 - The house number is too long ?

The SAP error message 5N059, "The house number is too long," typically occurs when the house number field in an address exceeds the maximum allowed length defined in the system. This error is often encountered in modules related to customer master data, vendor master data, or any other address-related transactions.

    Cause:

    1. Field Length Exceeded: The house number field in the address data has a predefined maximum length (usually 10 characters in many SAP configurations). If the input exceeds this limit, the error will be triggered.
    2. Data Entry Error: Users may inadvertently enter an incorrect or excessively long house number during data entry.
    3. Data Migration Issues: If data is being migrated from another system, the house number format may not comply with SAP's field length restrictions.

    Solution:

    1. Check Input Length: Ensure that the house number being entered does not exceed the maximum length allowed by the system. If it does, shorten the house number to fit within the limit.
    2. Data Validation: Implement validation checks in the data entry process to prevent users from entering house numbers that are too long.
    3. Review Configuration: If necessary, review the configuration settings in the SAP system to see if the field length can be adjusted, although this is generally not recommended as it may affect other functionalities.
    4. Data Cleansing: If the error arises from data migration, cleanse the data to ensure that all house numbers conform to the expected format and length before importing them into SAP.

    Related Information:

    • Field Length Settings: The maximum length for the house number field can be found in the relevant data dictionary (DDIC) table or through transaction codes like SE11 (Data Dictionary) or SE16 (Data Browser).
    • SAP Notes: Check for any SAP Notes related to this error message for additional guidance or patches that may address specific issues.
    • User Training: Provide training to users on proper data entry practices to minimize the occurrence of such errors.

If the issue persists after following these steps, it may be beneficial to consult with your SAP support team or refer to SAP documentation for further troubleshooting.
