    System Response

Program RPRFIN00_40 for creation of posting runs requests a new posting
run number for each run. The number range object for the posting run
number is, however, locked until creation of the posting run has been
completed. During this time, the system prevents other users from
    starting the program.

    How to fix this error?

Wait until user &v1& has stopped using the program. If the program is
still locked after user &v1& is finished, please contact your system
    administrator.

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message 56841 - 'Create posting run' has already been started by user & ?

The SAP error message 56841, which states that a "Create posting run" has already been started by a user, typically occurs when a user attempts to initiate a posting run (such as for financial documents, invoices, or other postings) while another posting run is already in progress by the same user or potentially by another user.

    Cause:

    1. Concurrent Posting Runs: The most common cause is that the user is trying to start a new posting run while an existing one is still active. This can happen if the user does not realize that a previous run is still processing.
    2. Session Issues: Sometimes, if a user has multiple sessions open, they might inadvertently start a posting run in one session while another is still running in another session.
    3. Locking Mechanism: SAP uses a locking mechanism to prevent data inconsistencies. If a posting run is already in progress, the system will not allow another run to start until the first one is completed.

    Solution:

    1. Check Active Posting Runs: Verify if there is an active posting run by checking the relevant transaction or report. You can use transaction codes like FB03 (Display Document) or FBL1N (Vendor Line Item Display) to see if there are any ongoing processes.
    2. Wait for Completion: If you find that a posting run is indeed in progress, you will need to wait for it to complete before starting a new one.
    3. Terminate Stuck Processes: If you suspect that a posting run is stuck or taking too long, you may need to consult with your SAP Basis team to check for any long-running jobs or processes that can be terminated safely.
    4. Log Off and Log Back In: If you are unsure about the status of your sessions, logging off and back into SAP can sometimes clear session-related issues.
    5. Check User Locks: If the issue persists, check if there are any user locks in the system that might be causing the problem. This can be done using transaction SM12 (Display and Delete Locks).

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes for monitoring and managing posting runs, such as FB50 (Enter G/L Account Document), F-02 (Enter G/L Account Posting), and F110 (Automatic Payment Transactions).
    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any known issues or patches related to this error message. SAP Notes can provide additional context or solutions for specific scenarios.
    • User Authorization: Ensure that the user has the necessary authorizations to perform posting runs, as insufficient permissions can sometimes lead to unexpected errors.

If the problem persists after trying the above solutions, it may be beneficial to reach out to your SAP support team for further assistance.
