Message text: Device type and formats are not compatible
For certain format conversions, <DS:DE.SX_DEVTYPE>device types</> are
required. There are two main scenarios here:
Converting SAPscript / Smart Forms documents to PDF or TXT
All other conversions that require a device type.
In the first case, essentially only the character set belonging to the
device type is relevant. For the second, the conversion is the same as
for printing, meaning that all other information belonging to the device
type is relavant, particularly the respective driver. For this reason,
these conversions are checked for whether the target format and driver
are compatible.
In this instance this was not the case:
Target format &V1& and device type &V2& are not compatible.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
Specify a suitable device type.

- Device type and formats are not compatible ?The SAP error message XS132, which states "Device type and formats are not compatible," typically occurs when there is a mismatch between the device type specified in the print configuration and the format of the document being printed. This can happen in various scenarios, such as when printing from SAPscript, Smart Forms, or other output formats.
Causes:
- Incompatible Device Type: The device type assigned to the printer may not support the format of the document being printed (e.g., trying to print a PDF document on a device that only supports plain text).
- Incorrect Output Format: The output format specified in the print settings may not be compatible with the selected device type.
- Configuration Issues: There may be issues in the printer configuration in SAP, such as incorrect settings in the device type or output device.
- Missing or Incorrect Device Type: The device type may not be correctly defined in the SAP system or may be missing altogether.
Solutions:
Check Device Type: Verify that the device type assigned to the printer is compatible with the document format you are trying to print. You can do this by checking the device type settings in transaction SPAD (Spool Administration).
Change Output Format: If possible, change the output format of the document to one that is compatible with the device type. This may involve modifying the print program or the settings in the output configuration.
Review Printer Configuration: Go to transaction SPAD and review the configuration of the output device. Ensure that the device type is correctly assigned and that all necessary parameters are set up properly.
Test with Different Device Type: If you have access to multiple printers or device types, try printing the document using a different device type that is known to support the format.
Update Device Type: If the device type is outdated or not functioning correctly, consider updating it or using a different device type that is compatible with the required formats.
Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or support notes related to the specific device type and output formats to ensure compatibility.
