XE022
- Number range overflow object &1 interval &2 ?The SAP error message XE022 indicates that there is a number range overflow for a specific object and interval. This typically occurs when the system has exhausted the available numbers in a defined number range interval for a particular object, such as a document type or a master record.
Cause:
- Exhausted Number Range: The most common cause is that the number range defined for the object has been completely used up. For example, if the number range is defined from 1 to 1000, and all numbers have been assigned, the next attempt to generate a new number will result in this error.
- Incorrect Configuration: Sometimes, the number range intervals may not be configured correctly, leading to premature exhaustion.
- High Volume of Transactions: In systems with a high volume of transactions, the number range can be consumed quickly.
Solution:
Extend the Number Range:
- Go to the transaction code SNRO (Number Range Objects).
- Find the relevant number range object associated with the error message.
- Check the current intervals and extend the number range by adding a new interval or increasing the upper limit of the existing interval.
- Make sure to save your changes.
Check Number Range Status:
- Use transaction code SNUM to check the status of the number range and see how many numbers are still available.
- If the number range is exhausted, you will need to extend it as mentioned above.
Review Configuration:
- Ensure that the configuration for the number range is set up correctly. This includes checking that the intervals are not overlapping and that they are properly assigned to the relevant document types or objects.
Monitor Usage:
- Implement monitoring to keep track of number range usage, especially in high-volume environments, to prevent future occurrences of this error.
Related Information:

Documentation: Refer to SAP Help documentation for detailed information on managing number ranges and best practices.
User Authorization: Ensure that you have the necessary authorizations to make changes to number ranges, as this typically requires administrative privileges.
