  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message WS_INTRASTAT023 - Net weight not found for document &1,item &2 ?

    The SAP error message:

WS_INTRASTAT023 Net weight not found for document &1, item &2

    Meaning / Cause:

This error occurs during the Intrastat data extraction or reporting process. Intrastat is used for statistical reporting of goods movements between EU member states. The message indicates that the system could not find the net weight for the specified document number (&1) and item number (&2).

The net weight is a mandatory field for Intrastat reporting because it is required to correctly report the quantity of goods moved.

    Common causes:

    • The material master data for the item does not have net weight maintained.
    • The net weight is not determined or updated in the sales/purchase document item.
    • The net weight field is missing or zero in the document item.
    • Customizing or user-exit enhancements that affect weight determination are incomplete or incorrect.
    • The document type or item category does not trigger weight determination.

    Solution:

    1. Check Material Master:

      • Go to transaction MM03 and check the material master for the item.
      • Verify that the net weight is maintained in the Basic Data 1 view (field: Net weight).
      • If missing, maintain the net weight in the material master.
    2. Check Document Item:

      • Check the sales or purchase document (e.g., sales order, delivery, invoice) for the item.
      • Verify if the net weight is populated in the item data.
      • If not, check if the weight determination is working correctly.
    3. Weight Determination Configuration:

      • Check the configuration for weight determination in SD/MM.
      • For sales documents, weight is usually copied from the material master or delivery.
      • For deliveries, check if the weight is updated correctly.
      • Use transaction OVZ9 (Weight determination) to check the settings.
    4. Update or Recalculate Weight:

      • If weight is missing in delivery or invoice, try to update or recalculate it.
      • For deliveries, use transaction VL02N to check and update weight.
      • For sales orders, check if the weight is copied from the material master.
    5. Intrastat Configuration:

      • Check Intrastat customizing (transaction WEIS).
      • Ensure that the net weight field is correctly mapped and mandatory fields are maintained.
    6. Data Consistency:

      • Run consistency checks or reports to identify documents with missing net weight.
      • Correct the data manually or via mass update if needed.

    Additional Information:

    • Intrastat reporting requires accurate data on quantities, weights, and values.
    • Missing net weight can cause incomplete or rejected Intrastat declarations.
    • Sometimes, custom developments or user exits (e.g., EXIT_SAPLV50E_002) are used to enhance weight determination; verify these if applicable.
    • If the problem persists after checking the above, check OSS notes related to Intrastat and weight determination.
