  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message WD716 - Condition of step & found. This does not exist; do you want to delete it? ?

    SAP Error Message:
WD716 Condition of step & found. This does not exist; do you want to delete it??

    Cause:

This error typically occurs in SAP Workflow when the system tries to access or process a condition associated with a workflow step, but the condition record no longer exists or is inconsistent in the workflow definition. In other words, the workflow step references a condition that has been deleted or is missing in the workflow configuration.

    Common scenarios include:

    • The workflow definition was changed, and conditions were deleted or modified, but the workflow runtime still references the old condition.
    • Transport or customization inconsistencies where workflow steps and their conditions are out of sync.
    • Corrupted or incomplete workflow data in the database.

    Explanation:

    • Step: A workflow step in SAP Workflow.
    • Condition: A logical condition attached to the step that controls the flow or execution.
    • The system found a reference to a condition for a step, but the actual condition does not exist in the workflow repository.

    Solution:

    1. Check Workflow Definition:

      • Go to transaction SWDD (Workflow Builder).
      • Open the workflow in question.
      • Navigate to the step mentioned in the error.
      • Check the conditions assigned to the step.
      • Verify if the condition exists or if it was deleted.
    2. Delete or Recreate Condition:

      • If the condition no longer exists, you can delete the reference to it.
      • If the condition is required, recreate it properly in the workflow step.
    3. Use Transaction SWU_OBUF:

      • Run SWU_OBUF to rebuild the workflow buffer.
      • This can help synchronize the workflow runtime data with the repository.
    4. Check for Transport or Customizing Issues:

      • If the workflow was transported from another system, ensure all related objects (steps, conditions) were transported correctly.
      • Re-import or fix transport inconsistencies.
    5. Delete the Condition Reference:

      • When prompted by the error message "do you want to delete it?", confirm deletion if the condition is obsolete.
      • This will remove the invalid reference and allow the workflow to continue.
    6. Check Workflow Logs:

      • Use SWI1 or SWI2_FREQ to analyze workflow logs and identify problematic steps or conditions.
    7. SAP Notes and Support:

      • Check SAP Notes for any known bugs related to WD716.
      • Example SAP Note: 108927 (may vary depending on SAP version).

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes:

      • SWDD - Workflow Builder
      • SWU_OBUF - Rebuild Workflow Buffer
      • SWI1 - Workflow Log
      • SWI2_FREQ - Workflow Runtime Analysis
    • SAP Help:

      • SAP Workflow documentation on conditions and steps.
      • SAP Community forums for similar issues.
    • Best Practices:

      • Always transport workflow objects together.
      • Avoid deleting conditions without checking workflow dependencies.
      • Regularly rebuild workflow buffers after changes.

    Summary:

The error WD716 indicates a mismatch between workflow step conditions and the actual workflow repository. The solution involves verifying and correcting the workflow step conditions, deleting obsolete references, and rebuilding the workflow buffer to synchronize runtime data.
