  • What causes this issue?

In the mode <ZK>Create start condition</>, a list of event linkages is
displayed to which no start conditions have yet been assigned. The list
is compiled in accordance with the search criteria you specified in the
upper screen area. Single-clicking on an entry in the list (= an event
linkage) calls the condition editor, with which you can now enter a
start condition for this event linkage. When you return from the
condition editor, you automatically return to the mode <ZK>Edit/display
</> <ZK>start condition</>, in which you can modify the start condition
and the associated attributes of the start condition.

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message W8423 - Create a start condition; click the required event linkage ?

    SAP Error Message:
W8423 - Create a start condition; click the required event linkage

    Cause:

This warning message typically appears in SAP when you are working with Event Linkages in the context of Workflow or Event Management and you have not yet defined a start condition for the event linkage. The system requires a start condition to determine when the event linkage should be triggered.

In other words, the system expects you to specify under what condition(s) the event linkage should start, but this has not been done yet.

    Explanation:

    • Event Linkage is a mechanism in SAP Workflow or Event Management that links an event to a workflow or a process.
    • A start condition is a logical condition that controls when the event linkage should be activated.
    • Without a start condition, the system cannot decide when to trigger the event linkage, hence the warning.

    Solution:

    1. Create a Start Condition:

      • Go to the event linkage maintenance screen.
      • Select the event linkage for which the warning appears.
      • Define a start condition by specifying the logical condition(s) under which the event linkage should be triggered.
      • This is usually done by clicking on the "Start Condition" button or navigating to the condition editor.
      • Use the condition editor to create the required logical expression (e.g., based on event attributes, status, or other relevant data).
    2. Save the Event Linkage:

      • After defining the start condition, save your changes.
      • The warning message should no longer appear.

    • Common Scenarios:
      • When configuring workflows triggered by business events.
      • When setting up event-driven processes in SAP Event Management.
    • Tips:
      • Ensure that the start condition is logically consistent and correctly references the event attributes.
      • Test the event linkage after creation to verify that it triggers as expected.

If you continue to face issues, consider checking SAP Notes or consulting with your SAP Workflow or Event Management administrator for environment-specific guidance.
