  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message VLA058 - Goods issue has not taken place. Delivery & cannot be changed ?

The SAP error message VLA058 ("Goods issue has not taken place. Delivery cannot be changed") typically occurs in the context of logistics and inventory management when you attempt to change a delivery document that has not yet had a goods issue posted against it. This error is common in scenarios involving outbound deliveries, where the system expects that a goods issue must occur before any modifications can be made to the delivery.

    Cause:

    1. Goods Issue Not Posted: The primary reason for this error is that the goods issue for the delivery has not been executed. The system requires that the goods be physically issued before any changes can be made to the delivery document.
    2. Delivery Status: The delivery may be in a status that does not allow changes, such as being partially delivered or already confirmed.
    3. Document Locking: There may be locks on the delivery document due to ongoing processes or transactions that prevent changes.

    Solution:

    1. Post Goods Issue: If the goods issue has not been posted, you need to perform the goods issue transaction (usually through transaction code VL02N or VL01N) to complete the process. Once the goods issue is posted, you should be able to make changes to the delivery.
    2. Check Delivery Status: Verify the status of the delivery. If it is in a state that does not allow changes, you may need to resolve any outstanding issues or complete necessary steps before proceeding.
    3. Review Document Locks: Check if there are any locks on the delivery document. You can use transaction code SM12 to see if there are any active locks and resolve them if necessary.
    4. Consult with Your Team: If you are unsure about the next steps or if the issue persists, consult with your logistics or SAP support team for further assistance.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as VL01N (Create Outbound Delivery), VL02N (Change Outbound Delivery), and VL03N (Display Outbound Delivery).
    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any known issues or patches related to this error message.
    • Documentation: Review SAP documentation or help files related to outbound deliveries and goods issues for more detailed guidance on the processes involved.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the VLA058 error and proceed with your delivery processing in SAP.
