How To Fix UGMD8010 - Data model cannot be synchronized; see long text

SAP Error Message - Details

  • Message type: E = Error

  • Message class: UGMD8 - Change Management

  • Message number: 010

  • Message text: Data model cannot be synchronized; see long text

  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

Automatic data model synchronization is <ZH>not possible</> due to the
    imminence of serious inconsistency.
This situation can occur, for example, if the compound of one field to
an independent field is to be revoked and the system still contains
<ZH>ambiguous data</> with regards to the compound to be deleted. An
uncontrolled conversion of this data would most likely lead to serious
    and unreconcilable inconsistencies.

    System Response

The data model synchronizer and the generation of the application area
    will be terminated.

    How to fix this error?

Manual steps need to be taken before you can proceed with the action in
    the data model:
Start by temporarily reversing the decisive change that was made in the
field definition. This is to allow you to relaunch the application on
the basis of the unchanged data model. For example, insert again the
compound of fields that was deleted, and activate the characteristic in
    its original state.
Launch the application. Now, <ZH>delete</> all <ZH>ambiguous </>master
data values of the respective field. If you remove a compound, make sure
that, for example, all master data values being retaining have a <ZH>
uniform value for the independent characteristic to be deleted.</>
All other values need to be <ZH>deleted.</> The system will inform you
if these values are still in use. These uses also need to be deleted.
Once you have deleted all ambiguous master data values, repeat the
change to the data model you made earlier (for example, delete the
compound of fields again). If the system no longer reports any potential
data inconsistencies, you should be able to run the data model
    synchronizer successfully.

    Procedure for System Administrators

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message UGMD8010 - Data model cannot be synchronized; see long text ?

The SAP error message UGMD8010 indicates that there is an issue with synchronizing a data model in the SAP system. This error typically arises in the context of SAP BW (Business Warehouse) or SAP HANA, where data models are used to define how data is structured, stored, and accessed.

    Cause:

The UGMD8010 error can be caused by several factors, including:

    1. Inconsistent Data Model: Changes made to the data model (like adding or removing fields, changing data types, etc.) may not have been properly synchronized across all components.
    2. Missing Dependencies: There may be missing or broken dependencies in the data model, such as missing tables, views, or other objects that the model relies on.
    3. Transport Issues: If the data model was transported from one system to another (e.g., from development to production), there may have been issues during the transport process.
    4. Version Conflicts: Different versions of the data model may exist in different environments, leading to synchronization issues.
    5. Database Issues: There may be underlying database issues, such as locks or corruption, that prevent the synchronization from completing successfully.

    Solution:

To resolve the UGMD8010 error, you can follow these steps:

    1. Check the Long Text: The error message usually has a long text that provides more specific details about the issue. Review this information for clues on what might be wrong.
    2. Re-Synchronize the Data Model: Attempt to manually re-synchronize the data model. This can often be done through the SAP GUI or relevant transaction codes (like RSA1 for BW).
    3. Check for Inconsistencies: Use tools like the Data Modeler or the BW Modeling Tools to check for inconsistencies in the data model. Look for any objects that are not properly defined or linked.
    4. Review Transport Logs: If the issue arose after a transport, check the transport logs for any errors or warnings that might indicate what went wrong.
    5. Database Checks: Ensure that the underlying database is functioning correctly. Check for locks, and run consistency checks if necessary.
    6. Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or notes related to the UGMD8010 error for any specific recommendations or patches that may apply.
