  • What causes this issue?

&V1& : One of the characteristic values is used in hierarchy &V2& as of
&V3&. Consequently you <ZH>cannot</> delete the characteristic values of
&V1&. Deletion is only possible when none of the characeteristic values
    is being used.

    System Response

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

    How to fix this error?

If you want to delete the characteristic values of &V1& you first have
to change the hierarchy so that none of the characteristic values to be
    deleted are being used.
Bear in mind that you are trying to delete several characteristic
values. In this situation, it is not always at first clear which of
these characteristic values is used in hierarchy &V2& as of &V3&. If
displaying &V2& does not help you with this, then you can display the
individual characteristic values of &V1& that you want to delete, and
then call up the <LS>Where-used list</> function for each characteristic
value. In this way you can determine which of the characteristic values
    is being used.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message UGMD084 - &1 is used in a hierarchy and cannot be deleted ?

The SAP error message UGMD084 indicates that a specific object (like a characteristic or a node) is being used in a hierarchy and cannot be deleted. This is a common issue when working with master data in SAP, particularly in the context of SAP BW (Business Warehouse) or SAP ERP systems where hierarchies are utilized for reporting and data organization.

    Cause:

The error occurs because the object you are trying to delete is currently part of a hierarchy structure. Hierarchies are used to represent relationships between different data elements, and if an object is part of a hierarchy, it cannot be deleted until it is removed from that hierarchy.

    Solution:

To resolve this error, you need to follow these steps:

    1. Identify the Hierarchy: Determine which hierarchy the object is part of. You can do this by checking the hierarchy assignments in the relevant transaction or data model.

    2. Remove from Hierarchy:

      • Navigate to the hierarchy management transaction (e.g., RSH1 for SAP BW).
      • Locate the hierarchy that includes the object.
      • Remove the object from the hierarchy. This may involve editing the hierarchy structure and deleting the node or characteristic that is causing the issue.
    3. Delete the Object: Once the object has been removed from all hierarchies, you can proceed to delete it without encountering the UGMD084 error.

    4. Check for Dependencies: Ensure that there are no other dependencies or references to the object in other areas of the system that might prevent deletion.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as RSH1 (Hierarchy Maintenance) or RSH2 (Hierarchy Display) for managing hierarchies in SAP BW.
    • Documentation: Refer to SAP Help documentation for more details on hierarchy management and object dependencies.
    • Testing: After making changes, it’s a good practice to test the hierarchy and ensure that the data integrity is maintained.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the UGMD084 error and successfully delete the object in question.
