  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

&V1& : One of the characteristic vleus is used in hierarchy &V2& in
hierarchy version &V3& as of &V4&. Consequently, you cannot delete &V1&.
Deletion is only possible when none of the characteristic values is
    being used.

    System Response

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

    How to fix this error?

If you want to delete the characteristic values of &V1& you first have
to change the hierarchy so that none of the characteristic values to be
    deleted are being used.
Bear in mind that you are trying to delete several characteristic
values. In this situation, it is not always at first clear which of
these characteristic values in &V2& are used in the hierarchy version
&V3& as of &V4&. If displaying &V2& does not help you with this, then
you can display the individual characteristic values of &V1& that you
want to delete, and then call up the <LS>Where-used list</> function for
each characteristic value. In this way you can determine which of the
    characteristic values is being used.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message UGMD082 - &1 is used in a hierarchy and cannot be deleted ?

The SAP error message UGMD082 indicates that a specific object (like a cost center, profit center, or other master data) is currently being used in a hierarchy and therefore cannot be deleted. This is a common issue when trying to manage master data in SAP, particularly in modules like Controlling (CO) or Financial Accounting (FI).

    Cause:

    1. Hierarchy Usage: The object you are trying to delete is part of a hierarchy structure. Hierarchies are used to organize and categorize data, and if an object is part of such a structure, it cannot be deleted until it is removed from the hierarchy.
    2. Dependencies: There may be dependencies or links to other objects or transactions that rely on the existence of this object in the hierarchy.

    Solution:

To resolve this error, you need to follow these steps:

    1. Identify the Hierarchy: Determine which hierarchy the object is part of. You can do this by checking the hierarchy assignments in the relevant transaction (e.g., for cost centers, you might check in the cost center hierarchy).

    2. Remove from Hierarchy:

      • Navigate to the hierarchy management transaction (e.g., KSH1 for cost center hierarchy).
      • Find the specific hierarchy where the object is used.
      • Remove the object from the hierarchy.
    3. Check for Other Dependencies: Ensure that there are no other dependencies or references to the object in other areas of the system.

    4. Delete the Object: Once the object has been removed from the hierarchy and any dependencies have been addressed, you should be able to delete the object without encountering the UGMD082 error.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes for managing hierarchies, such as KSH1 (Cost Center Hierarchy), KSH2 (Change Cost Center Hierarchy), and KSH3 (Display Cost Center Hierarchy).
    • Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help files for detailed steps on managing hierarchies and master data.
    • Authorization: Ensure you have the necessary authorizations to make changes to hierarchies and master data.

If you continue to face issues after following these steps, it may be helpful to consult with your SAP support team or refer to SAP Notes for any specific patches or updates related to this error message.
