  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message UCM0181 - Asset-managing and goodwill-creating units are the same ?

The SAP error message UCM0181 indicates that there is an issue with the configuration of asset management in relation to goodwill-creating units. This error typically arises when the system detects that an asset-managing unit and a goodwill-creating unit are set to be the same, which is not allowed in SAP's configuration for asset accounting.

    Cause:

The error occurs due to the following reasons:

    1. Configuration Issue: The asset management settings in the system are incorrectly configured, leading to the same unit being designated for both asset management and goodwill creation.
    2. Master Data Setup: The master data for the asset or the goodwill-creating unit may have been set up incorrectly, causing a conflict in the system.

    Solution:

To resolve the UCM0181 error, you can follow these steps:

    1. Check Configuration:

      • Go to the configuration settings for Asset Accounting (Transaction code: SPRO).
      • Navigate to the section for defining the asset management and goodwill-creating units.
      • Ensure that the asset-managing unit and goodwill-creating unit are defined as separate entities.
    2. Review Master Data:

      • Check the master data for the asset in question (Transaction code: AS03).
      • Verify that the asset is assigned to the correct asset-managing unit and that it does not overlap with the goodwill-creating unit.
    3. Adjust Settings:

      • If you find that the units are indeed set to be the same, you will need to adjust the settings to ensure they are distinct.
      • This may involve creating a new goodwill-creating unit or modifying the existing configuration.
    4. Testing:

      • After making the necessary changes, perform a test transaction to ensure that the error no longer occurs.
    5. Consult Documentation:

      • Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for further guidance on configuring asset management and goodwill-creating units.
