  • Show details Hide details
  • Important for entry of 'from-to ranges': code-page-specific entries
Unintended faulty effects may be produced when you enter intervals with
upper and lower limits when defining key ranges.
The reason for this is that the decision as to whether a given key lies
within the interval is code-page-specific. The example given below is
intended to document this. We recommend that you make the key range
definition by listing generic areas as in this way such dangers can be
    avoided.
    Example:
    Range: XX* to YY*
Allowed on ASCII machines: e.g. keys 'Z1234', 'Z9*'
Allowed on EBCDIC machines: e.g. keys 'Y1234', 'Y9*'
The different (and presumably undesired) value ranges on the two
different types of computer are mutually exclusive, meaning that the
allowability of a particular key becomes chance.
Single-character key entries, on the other hand, do not cause problems:
    A* to X* ,
since in this case it is not possible for special characters and/or
numerical values to get mixed up in any code page.
