  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message TK839 - Relocations from Basis system to application system not allowed ?

The SAP error message TK839, which states "Relocations from Basis system to application system not allowed," typically occurs in the context of transport management within SAP systems. This error indicates that there is an attempt to transport objects or changes from a Basis system (which is responsible for system administration and infrastructure) to an application system (which contains the business logic and applications), which is not permitted.

    Cause:

    1. Transport Route Configuration: The transport route may not be correctly configured to allow transports from the Basis system to the application system. SAP systems have specific transport routes that define which systems can send and receive transports.
    2. Transport Layer Settings: The transport layer settings may not allow for the movement of transports from the Basis system to the application system.
    3. Incorrect Transport Request: The transport request may be incorrectly set up or may contain objects that are not allowed to be transported in that direction.

    Solution:

    1. Check Transport Routes: Verify the transport routes in the Transport Management System (TMS) configuration. Ensure that the route from the Basis system to the application system is correctly defined and active.

      • Go to TMS configuration (Transaction code: STMS).
      • Check the transport routes and ensure that the direction of transport is correctly set up.
    2. Review Transport Layer: Check the transport layer settings to ensure that they allow for the required transports. You can do this by:

      • Going to the Transport Management System (TMS).
      • Checking the transport layer settings for the involved systems.
    3. Correct Transport Request: Ensure that the transport request you are trying to use is valid and contains the correct objects. If necessary, create a new transport request that adheres to the transport rules.

    4. Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or notes related to transport management for any specific configurations or restrictions that may apply to your system landscape.

    5. Contact SAP Support: If the issue persists after checking the above points, consider reaching out to SAP support for further assistance, especially if this is a production environment.

    Related Information:

    • Transport Management System (TMS): This is the tool used to manage transports in SAP systems. Understanding how TMS works and how to configure it is crucial for resolving transport-related issues.
    • SAP Notes: Check for any relevant SAP Notes that may address this specific error or provide additional guidance on transport management.
    • System Landscape: Understanding the architecture of your SAP landscape (e.g., Development, Quality Assurance, Production) is important, as it affects how transports are managed and moved between systems.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify the cause of the TK839 error and implement a solution to resolve it.
