Message text: Error calculating the selection horizon
An error occurred when calculating the selection horizon. (See message
in log.)
The selection horizon is calculated internally from the
<DS:DE.S2L_PLNG_HORIZON>planning horizon</> and determines the time
until which dependent requirements are read and analyzed.
As an error occurred during the calculation, the system only analyzes
the requirements in the planning horizon. Backflushes carried out ahead
of schedule for orders planned in the future may not be recognized.
Check the control cycle and the scheudling profile.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

- Error calculating the selection horizon ?The SAP error message S2L106, which states "Error calculating the selection horizon," typically occurs in the context of SAP's logistics and planning modules, particularly when dealing with planning scenarios such as Material Requirements Planning (MRP) or Production Planning (PP). This error indicates that there is an issue with the system's ability to determine the selection horizon for planning purposes.
Causes:
- Configuration Issues: Incorrect settings in the planning parameters or master data can lead to this error. This includes settings related to the planning horizon, such as start and end dates.
- Master Data Problems: Missing or incorrect master data for materials, such as MRP views, lead times, or planning strategies, can cause the system to fail in calculating the selection horizon.
- Data Consistency: Inconsistencies in the data, such as invalid dates or periods, can lead to errors in calculations.
- System Performance: If the system is under heavy load or if there are performance issues, it may not be able to process the calculations in a timely manner.
Solutions:
- Check Configuration: Review the configuration settings for MRP or PP. Ensure that the planning horizon is correctly defined in the relevant customizing settings.
- Review Master Data: Verify that all necessary master data is complete and accurate. Check the MRP views of the materials involved and ensure that all required fields are filled out correctly.
- Data Consistency Check: Run consistency checks on the data to identify any discrepancies. This can include checking for valid dates and ensuring that all relevant data is correctly maintained.
- System Performance: Monitor system performance and check for any issues that may be affecting processing times. If necessary, optimize the system or schedule planning runs during off-peak hours.
- Logs and Traces: Check the application logs and traces for more detailed error messages that can provide additional context on what might be causing the issue.
