  • Description:
The system checks whether the same characteristic values exist in the
    master data tables <AB>S</> (<AB>SID</>), <AB>P</> (time-independent
master data), and <AB>Q</> (time-dependent master data).
It is checked more closely to see whether the following three
quantities of characteristics are the same:
Characteristic values that occur in the <AB>SID</> table of the
examined characteristic in data records with the check flag (field
    <AB>CHCKFL</>) = 'X'
Characteristic values that occur in the <AB>P</> table of the
characteristic in data records with the object version (field

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message RSRV074 - Compare characteristic values in SID/P/and Q tables for characteristic &1 ?

The SAP error message RSRV074 indicates that there is a discrepancy in the characteristic values between the SID (Surrogate ID) tables and the fact tables (P and Q tables) in the context of SAP BW (Business Warehouse). This error typically arises during data consistency checks or when running the RSRV transaction to validate the integrity of the data in the BW system.

    Cause:

The error occurs when the characteristic values stored in the SID tables do not match the values in the corresponding fact tables (P and Q tables). This can happen due to several reasons, including:

    1. Data Load Issues: Incomplete or failed data loads can lead to inconsistencies between the SID tables and the fact tables.
    2. Manual Data Changes: If data is manually changed in the fact tables without updating the SID tables, it can lead to discrepancies.
    3. Data Modeling Changes: Changes in the data model, such as changes to characteristics or attributes, can cause inconsistencies if not properly managed.
    4. Data Deletion: If characteristic values are deleted from the SID tables but still referenced in the fact tables, this can lead to errors.

    Solution:

To resolve the RSRV074 error, you can follow these steps:

    1. Run RSRV Transaction: Use the RSRV transaction to analyze the error. This transaction provides tools to check the consistency of the data in the BW system.

    2. Check SID Tables: Verify the SID tables for the characteristic in question. You can use the transaction SE11 to view the SID tables and check if the characteristic values exist.

    3. Check Fact Tables: Similarly, check the fact tables (P and Q tables) to see if they reference SID values that do not exist in the SID tables.

    4. Rebuild SIDs: If discrepancies are found, you may need to rebuild the SIDs. This can be done by reloading the data for the affected InfoObject or characteristic. Ensure that the data load is successful and that the SID tables are updated accordingly.

    5. Data Consistency Check: After making corrections, run the consistency check again using RSRV to ensure that the issue is resolved.

    6. Data Management: Implement proper data management practices to avoid future discrepancies, such as ensuring that all data loads are complete and successful, and that any manual changes are reflected in the SID tables.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: RSRV (Data Consistency Check), SE11 (Data Dictionary), RSA1 (Data Warehousing Workbench).
    • SAP Notes: Check for relevant SAP Notes that may provide additional guidance or patches related to this error.
    • Documentation: Review SAP BW documentation for best practices in data modeling and data loading processes to prevent similar issues in the future.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the discrepancies causing the RSRV074 error in your SAP BW system.
