  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message RSM2042 - Data records were selected in the PSA ?

The SAP error message RSM2042 indicates that data records have been selected in the Persistent Staging Area (PSA) but have not been processed further. This message typically arises in the context of data extraction and loading processes, particularly when working with SAP BW (Business Warehouse) or SAP BI (Business Intelligence).

    Cause:

The error message RSM2042 can occur due to several reasons:

    1. Data Load Issues: The data records in the PSA may not have been successfully loaded into the target InfoProvider (like an InfoCube or DataStore Object).
    2. Data Quality Issues: There may be issues with the data quality, such as missing mandatory fields or data format inconsistencies.
    3. Process Chain Configuration: The process chain that is supposed to handle the data load may not be configured correctly, leading to incomplete processing.
    4. Data Already Processed: The records in the PSA may have already been processed, and the system is trying to process them again.
    5. Locking Issues: There may be locks on the data that prevent it from being processed.

    Solution:

    1. Check Process Chain: Review the process chain that is responsible for loading data from the PSA to the target InfoProvider. Ensure that all steps are correctly configured and executed.
    2. Data Quality Check: Inspect the data in the PSA for any inconsistencies or missing values. You can use transaction codes like RSA1 (Data Warehousing Workbench) to analyze the data.
    3. Reprocess Data: If the data is valid, you can manually reprocess the records in the PSA. This can be done using transaction code RSA3 to extract data or using the relevant data load process.
    4. Delete and Reload: If the data is corrupt or invalid, consider deleting the records from the PSA and reloading the data from the source system.
    5. Check for Locks: Use transaction SM12 to check for any locks on the data that might be preventing processing. If locks are found, you may need to release them.
    6. Review Logs: Check the logs for the data load process to identify any specific errors or warnings that may provide more context on the issue.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as RSA1 (Data Warehousing Workbench), RSA3 (Data Extraction), and SM12 (Lock Entries).
