  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message RSCRM226 - Hierarchy &1 cannot be changed due to an active filter ?

The SAP error message RSCRM226 indicates that a hierarchy cannot be changed because there is an active filter applied to it. This typically occurs in the context of SAP BW (Business Warehouse) or SAP BI (Business Intelligence) when working with hierarchies in InfoObjects or queries.

    Cause:

The error is triggered when you attempt to modify a hierarchy (such as adding or removing nodes) while a filter is currently applied to that hierarchy. Filters can be applied in various ways, such as through queries, reports, or during data processing. The active filter restricts the data view and prevents changes to the hierarchy structure.

    Solution:

To resolve the RSCRM226 error, you can follow these steps:

    1. Identify Active Filters: Determine where the active filter is being applied. This could be in a query, report, or during data processing. Check if there are any filters set in the query designer or in the report settings.

    2. Remove or Deactivate Filters: Once you identify the active filter, you can either remove it or deactivate it temporarily. This will allow you to make changes to the hierarchy.

    3. Modify the Hierarchy: After removing the filter, attempt to make the necessary changes to the hierarchy again.

    4. Reapply Filters: Once you have made the changes to the hierarchy, you can reapply the filters if needed.

    5. Check for Locks: In some cases, there may be locks on the hierarchy due to other users or processes. Ensure that no other users are currently working with the hierarchy.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: You may need to use transaction codes like RSA1 (Data Warehousing Workbench) to manage hierarchies and filters.
    • Hierarchy Management: Familiarize yourself with how hierarchies are structured and managed in SAP BW/BI, including the use of InfoObjects and the implications of filters.
    • Documentation: Refer to SAP Help documentation for more detailed information on managing hierarchies and filters in your specific version of SAP BW/BI.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the RSCRM226 error and successfully modify the hierarchy as needed.
