  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message RSCRM227 - Filter applied on &1 cannot be activated since hierarchy &2 is active ?

The SAP error message RSCRM227 indicates that there is a conflict with the activation of a filter in a hierarchy. Specifically, it means that the filter you are trying to activate cannot be activated because there is an active hierarchy that is related to it. This situation typically arises in the context of SAP BW (Business Warehouse) or SAP CRM (Customer Relationship Management) when dealing with data models, queries, or hierarchies.

    Cause:

    1. Active Hierarchy: The error occurs when you attempt to activate a filter on a characteristic that is part of a hierarchy that is currently active. The system does not allow changes to filters if they conflict with the active hierarchy.
    2. Dependency Issues: There may be dependencies between the filter and the hierarchy that prevent the filter from being activated while the hierarchy is in use.

    Solution:

To resolve the RSCRM227 error, you can follow these steps:

    1. Deactivate the Hierarchy:

      • Identify the active hierarchy (&2 in the error message) that is causing the conflict.
      • Deactivate the hierarchy in the relevant area (e.g., InfoObject maintenance, hierarchy management).
      • After deactivating the hierarchy, try to activate the filter (&1) again.
    2. Check for Dependencies:

      • Review the dependencies between the filter and the hierarchy. Ensure that the filter does not rely on the active hierarchy.
      • If necessary, modify the filter or the hierarchy to eliminate the conflict.
    3. Re-activate the Hierarchy:

      • Once the filter is successfully activated, you can reactivate the hierarchy if needed.
    4. Consult Documentation:

      • Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific instructions related to your version of SAP BW or CRM, as the steps may vary slightly based on the system configuration.
    5. Check for Other Filters:

      • Ensure that there are no other filters or settings that might be causing the conflict. Sometimes, multiple filters can interact in ways that lead to activation issues.

    Related Information:

    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any known issues or patches related to this error message. SAP frequently updates its knowledge base with solutions for common problems.
