Message text: Entry &1 - &2 causes overlap in object validity period
You have created a version or changed the validity of an existing
version. The period &V1& to &V2& that you have entered causes an
overlap in the validity period of the object, however. In Customizing
for versioning, you specified that overlaps are not permitted or that
they are permitted but the system is to output a warning. The system
has attempted to adjust the validity period to eliminate the overlap.
This attempt was unsuccessful.
If overlaps are not permitted, processing is canceled. If overlaps are
permitted, you can enter the period, but the system outputs this
warning.
If overlaps are not permitted or if you do not want the validity period
to contain an overlap, enter a period that follows on from existing
versions.

RMSA_VRS056
- Entry &1 - &2 causes overlap in object validity period ?The SAP error message RMSA_VRS056 indicates that there is an overlap in the validity periods of two entries in the system. This typically occurs in the context of managing master data, such as in the Resource Management or Availability Management modules, where the system expects that the validity periods of different entries do not overlap.
Cause:
The error arises when you attempt to create or modify an entry (like a resource, availability period, or similar) that has a validity period that overlaps with an existing entry. For example, if you have an entry valid from January 1 to January 31, and you try to create another entry valid from January 15 to February 15, the system will throw this error because the two periods overlap.
Solution:
To resolve this error, you can take the following steps:
Check Existing Entries: Review the existing entries in the system that are related to the object you are trying to create or modify. Identify the entries that have overlapping validity periods.
Adjust Validity Periods: Modify the validity period of the new entry you are trying to create or the existing entries to ensure that there are no overlaps. You can either:
- Change the start or end date of the new entry.
- Change the start or end date of the existing entry that is causing the conflict.
Delete or Archive Old Entries: If the overlapping entry is no longer needed, consider deleting or archiving it, provided that it does not affect other processes or data integrity.
Consult Documentation: Refer to the SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidelines on managing validity periods in your particular module.
Testing: After making the necessary adjustments, try to create or modify the entry again to ensure that the error does not occur.
