  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message R7557 - InfoObject &1 is referenced from &2, compounding cannot be changed ?

The SAP error message R7557 indicates that you are trying to change the compounding of an InfoObject that is currently being referenced by another object. This typically occurs in the context of SAP BW (Business Warehouse) when you attempt to modify the characteristics of an InfoObject that is already in use in a data model, such as an InfoCube, DSO (DataStore Object), or other InfoProviders.

    Cause:

The primary cause of this error is that the InfoObject you are trying to modify is being used in a way that prevents changes to its compounding settings. Compounding in SAP BW refers to the relationship between characteristics where one characteristic is dependent on another. If an InfoObject is referenced in a structure that relies on its compounding, you cannot change its settings without first addressing those dependencies.

    Solution:

To resolve this error, you can follow these steps:

    1. Identify Dependencies: Determine where the InfoObject is being used. You can do this by checking the InfoObject's usage in InfoProviders, queries, or other objects. Use transaction codes like RSA1 (Data Warehousing Workbench) to explore the InfoObject's dependencies.

    2. Remove References: If possible, remove the references to the InfoObject from the dependent objects. This may involve:

      • Modifying or deleting queries that use the InfoObject.
      • Adjusting InfoProviders that include the InfoObject in their structures.
      • Checking for any transformations or data flows that might be using the InfoObject.
    3. Change Compounding: Once you have removed all references, you can proceed to change the compounding settings of the InfoObject.

    4. Re-establish References: After making the necessary changes, you can re-establish the references to the InfoObject in the dependent objects.

    5. Transport Changes: If you are working in a development environment, ensure that you transport your changes to the appropriate environments (e.g., quality assurance, production) after testing.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as RSA1 for the Data Warehousing Workbench, SE11 for Data Dictionary, and SE80 for Object Navigator.
    • Documentation: Review SAP documentation on InfoObjects and compounding to understand the implications of changes and best practices.
    • Testing: Always test changes in a development or quality assurance environment before applying them to production to avoid disruptions.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the R7557 error and successfully change the compounding of the InfoObject.
