Message text: Data is preassigned in the master inspection characteristic
You want to create a link to a class characteristic. To do this,
certain data has to be changed in the master inspection characteristic.
Which data must be changed depends on whether the class characteristic
is of the data type "<ZH>NUM</>" or "<ZH>CHAR</>."
If the class characteristic is of the data type "<ZH>NUM</>," the
following data is affected:
The master inspection characteristic is defined as a quantitative
characteristic. You can no longer change this setting.
For results confirmation, the "Summarized recording" indicator is set,
if the "Single value" indicator has been set in the class
characteristic.
For results confirmation, the "Single result" indicator is set, if the
"Multiple values" indicator has been set in the class characteristic.
All relevant data (for example, class width) is reset.
The "Check target value" indicator is canceled.
The tolerance key is canceled.
The "Confirm values" indicator is set and cannot be changed.
The number of digits is set to the value that is in the class
characteristic.
All limit pairs (except the specification limits) are reset.
If a unit of measurement was defined for the class characteristic, it
is copied into the master inspection characteristic and it can no
longer be changed.
If the "Required entry" indicator is set for the class characterstic,
the master inspection characteristic becomes a required characteristic;
otherwise it is an optional characteristic.
The master inspection characteristic is marked as a reference
characteristic, this means that if this characteristic is included in a
task list or material specification, it first appears as a reference.
To cancel the reference, the characteristic must be manually unlocked.
If the class characteristic is of the data type "<ZH>CHAR</>," the
following data is affected:
The master inspection characteristic is defined as a qualitative
characteristic. You cannot change this setting.
For results confirmation, the "Summarized recording" indicator is set.
You should not change this setting when the link has been created to
perform batch classification.
The "Characteristic attribute" indicator is set and cannot be changed.
The selected set from catalog type 1 contained in the class
characteristic is assigned to the master inspection characteristic. You
cannot change this selected set.
If any method-dependent selected sets from catalog type 1 are assigned
to the master inspection characteristic, they are canceled.
If the "Required entry" indicator is set for the class characterstic,
the master inspection characteristic becomes a required characteristic;
otherwise it is an optional characteristic.
The master inspection characteristic is marked as a reference
characteristic, this means that if this characteristic is included in a
task list or material specification, it first appears as a reference.
To cancel the reference, the characteristic must be manually unlocked.
The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.
Ignore the warning or check the settings in the master inspection
characteristic.

QS080
- Data is preassigned in the master inspection characteristic ?The SAP error message QS080, which states "Data is preassigned in the master inspection characteristic," typically occurs in the context of Quality Management (QM) when you are trying to create or modify inspection lots or characteristics that are already linked to a master inspection characteristic (MIC) in the system.
Cause:
The error arises because the master inspection characteristic has predefined data or settings that cannot be altered directly in the context you are working in. This is often due to:
- Preassigned Values: The MIC has specific values or settings that are already assigned, and the system prevents changes to maintain data integrity.
- Usage in Inspection Plans: The MIC is being used in an inspection plan, and any changes to it could affect the associated inspection lots or results.
- Locked Characteristics: The characteristic may be locked for editing due to its status in the system.
Solution:
To resolve the QS080 error, you can take the following steps:
Check the Master Inspection Characteristic:
- Navigate to the master inspection characteristic in the SAP system and review its settings. Ensure that the values or settings you are trying to change are not locked or preassigned.
Review Inspection Plans:
- If the MIC is part of an inspection plan, check the inspection plan for any dependencies or settings that might be causing the issue. You may need to adjust the inspection plan before making changes to the MIC.
Modify the Characteristic:
- If you need to change the MIC, consider creating a new characteristic or modifying the existing one in a way that does not conflict with the preassigned data.
Consult Documentation:
- Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidance on handling master inspection characteristics and their associated data.
User Permissions:
- Ensure that you have the necessary permissions to make changes to the master inspection characteristic. If not, contact your SAP administrator.
SAP Notes:
- Check for any relevant SAP Notes that might address this specific error or provide additional guidance.
