Message type: E = Error
Message class: Q3 - QM Master Data Messages: Catalogs
Message number: 221
Message text: Code & is being used and cannot be deleted
You want to delete a code from a code group. However, this code has
already been used. An error could then occur in the affected
application.
If you have set the "inactive" indicator for logical deletion in
Customizing for the catalog type, the entry can be deleted despite the
warning. You can then still find short texts for logically deleted
codes in other applications.
If in Customizing for the catalog type you have not set the "inactive"
indicator for physical deletion, the entry cannot be deleted, so that
data consistency is guaranteed in other applications.
If required (if necessary as a temporary measure), change the settings
in Customizing for the catalog type.
Note: If a catalog entry is logically deleted, no catalog entry can be
entered later with the same key.

Q3221
- Code & is being used and cannot be deleted ?The SAP error message Q3221 indicates that a quality inspection code (Q-code) is being used in the system and cannot be deleted. This typically occurs when the Q-code is linked to various objects or processes within the SAP system, such as inspection lots, quality notifications, or other quality management documents.
Cause:
- Active Usage: The Q-code is currently assigned to one or more inspection lots or quality notifications, which prevents its deletion.
- Dependencies: There may be dependencies on the Q-code in other modules or processes, such as production orders or material master records.
- Configuration Settings: The system may have specific configuration settings that restrict the deletion of Q-codes that are in use.
Solution:
Check Usage: Before attempting to delete the Q-code, check where it is being used. You can do this by:
- Navigating to the relevant transaction codes (e.g., QA32 for inspection lots) to see if the Q-code is linked to any active inspection lots.
- Reviewing quality notifications or other documents that may reference the Q-code.
Remove Dependencies: If the Q-code is linked to any active inspection lots or notifications, you will need to:
- Close or delete those inspection lots or notifications if they are no longer needed.
- Change the Q-code assignment in any relevant documents to another code if applicable.
Consult Configuration: If you believe the Q-code should be deletable, check with your SAP configuration team to ensure there are no settings preventing the deletion of Q-codes in use.
Use Transaction Code: If you have confirmed that the Q-code is not in use, you can attempt to delete it using the appropriate transaction code (e.g., QS22 for deleting Q-codes).
Seek Help: If you are unable to resolve the issue, consider reaching out to your SAP support team or consulting the SAP community for further assistance.
