How To Fix O3232 - QCI: Base density and base heating value have inconsistent parameters

SAP Error Message - Details

  • Message type: E = Error

  • Message class: O3 - IS-Oil: HPM messages (goods movements, QCI, deliveries)

  • Message number: 232

  • Message text: QCI: Base density and base heating value have inconsistent parameters

  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

You have maintained a unit of measure for the base density of a natural
gas in the conversion group that is maintained in the unit of measure
customizing table ( T006) with additional parameters ( temperature and
pressure values and units ). The base heating value that is maintained
in the conversion group is also maintained in that way. The values for
temperature and pressure have to be identical for both the base density
unit and the base heating value unit. Otherwise, the system issues this
error message and the calculation is halted, since inconsistent results
    would be obtained.

    System Response

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

    How to fix this error?

Change the settings in the conversion group. Enter a base density unit
and a base heating value unit that have identical parameters for
metering. Alternatively, you may remove the units of measure if no
conversion is required to the parameters attached to the units, or you
remove the flag in the conversion group that activates the additional
    conversion: <DS:TRAN.O580>Change conversion group settings</>

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message O3232 - QCI: Base density and base heating value have inconsistent parameters ?

The SAP error message O3232, which states "QCI: Base density and base heating value have inconsistent parameters," typically occurs in the context of Quality Management (QM) or Material Management (MM) modules when dealing with the characteristics of materials, particularly in relation to the Quality Control Inspection (QCI) process.

    Cause:

This error arises when there is a mismatch between the base density and the base heating value of a material. The parameters are expected to be consistent with each other, and if they are not, the system cannot process the data correctly. This inconsistency can occur due to:

    1. Incorrect Material Master Data: The material master may have been incorrectly set up, leading to discrepancies in the density and heating value.
    2. Data Entry Errors: Manual entry errors during the creation or modification of material data can lead to inconsistent values.
    3. Configuration Issues: The settings in the SAP system regarding how these parameters are defined or calculated may not align properly.

    Solution:

To resolve this error, you can take the following steps:

    1. Check Material Master Data:

      • Go to the material master record (transaction code MM03) and review the base density and base heating value.
      • Ensure that the values are consistent and correctly defined according to the material specifications.
    2. Correct Inconsistent Values:

      • If you find discrepancies, update the material master data to ensure that the base density and base heating value are aligned. This may involve consulting with relevant stakeholders (e.g., production, quality control) to confirm the correct values.
    3. Review Configuration Settings:

      • If the issue persists, check the configuration settings in the SAP system related to the material characteristics. This may require access to the customizing settings (transaction code SPRO) and reviewing the relevant configuration for QM or MM.
    4. Consult Documentation:

      • Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific guidelines on how to set up and maintain material characteristics, especially for those related to quality control.
    5. Testing:

      • After making corrections, perform a test to ensure that the error does not reoccur. This may involve running a quality inspection or processing the material in a transaction that previously triggered the error.

    Related Information:

    • Transaction Codes: Familiarize yourself with relevant transaction codes such as MM03 (Display Material), MM02 (Change Material), and QA32 (Quality Inspection Lot).
    • SAP Notes: Check SAP Notes for any known issues or patches related to this error message. SAP Notes can provide additional context or solutions that may not be immediately apparent.
    • User Roles: Ensure that users have the appropriate roles and permissions to view and edit material master data, as this can affect their ability to resolve the issue.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify and correct the inconsistency causing the O3232 error in SAP.
