SAP Error Message - Details

  • Message number: 091

  • Message text: Serialized object cannot be assigned to non-serialized routing

  • Show details Hide details
  • What causes this issue?

You are currently processing a shop floor routing for a non-serialized
product and are trying to assign an object that was created in the
    context of a serialized product.
This is not possible: If an operation is created in the context of a
non-serialized product, it's operation activities only contain one
status and action schema (SAS) for non-serialized products, for example.
However, if the routing is created for a serialized product, the
operation activities require two status and action schemas; one for
non-serialized products and one for serialized products. Therefore, you
cannot assign the operation created for a non-serialized product to a
routing that contains a serialized product and vice versa. In addition,
for a serialized product, certain additional QM settings that are
required for production are automatically set and saved for the object
that are not required for non-serialized products.

    System Response

The system cannot assign this object.

    How to fix this error?

You can only assign objects that were created in the same context -
either for a non-serialized product or a serialized product.

    Procedure for System Administrators

The system issues an error message and will not allow you to continue with this transaction until the error is resolved.

  • What is the cause and solution for SAP error message MPE_PLAN_RTG_VERS091 - Serialized object cannot be assigned to non-serialized routing ?

The SAP error message MPE_PLAN_RTG_VERS091 indicates that there is an issue with the assignment of a serialized object to a non-serialized routing. This typically occurs in the context of production planning and control, where serialized objects (like specific items or materials that have unique identifiers) are being incorrectly linked to routings that do not support serialization.

    Cause:

    1. Mismatch in Routing Type: The routing you are trying to assign the serialized object to is defined as a non-serialized routing. This means it does not support the tracking of individual serialized items.
    2. Configuration Issues: The configuration settings for the routing or the material may not be set up correctly to handle serialized items.
    3. Data Entry Errors: There may be an error in the data entry process where a serialized object is mistakenly linked to a routing that does not accommodate serialization.

    Solution:

    1. Check Routing Configuration: Review the routing configuration in the system. Ensure that the routing is set up to handle serialized objects if that is the intended use. This may involve changing the routing type to a serialized routing.
    2. Review Material Master Data: Check the material master data for the serialized object. Ensure that it is correctly defined as a serialized item and that it is compatible with the routing you are trying to use.
    3. Adjust Assignment: If the routing is indeed meant to be non-serialized, you will need to either:
      • Use a different routing that supports serialized items.
      • Remove the serialized object from the assignment if it is not necessary.
    4. Consult Documentation: Refer to SAP documentation or help resources for specific configuration settings related to serialized and non-serialized routings.
    5. Seek Help from SAP Support: If the issue persists, consider reaching out to SAP support for further assistance, especially if this is a recurring problem or if it affects critical business processes.

    Related Information:

    • Serialized vs. Non-Serialized Items: Understanding the difference between serialized and non-serialized items is crucial. Serialized items are tracked individually, while non-serialized items are treated as a bulk quantity.
    • Routing Types: Familiarize yourself with the different types of routings in SAP and their configurations, as this will help in troubleshooting similar issues in the future.
    • SAP Notes and Community: Check SAP Notes for any known issues or patches related to this error message. The SAP Community forums can also be a valuable resource for finding solutions shared by other users.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the error and ensure that your routing and material assignments are correctly configured.
